Position Title: Police Officer (Certified)

Salary:
CERTIFIED OFFICERS with prior police officer experience, may be considered for salary placement up to Step 3 ($88,478), in which case advancement to the next step will take place on their next anniversary date.

APPLICATION PROCESS AND ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Applications for certified entry positions shall be filed electronically with the Village of Schaumburg and applicants must comply with the requirements as follows:

  • Applicants must upload a certificate attesting to their successful completion of the Minimum Standards Basic Law Enforcement Training Course, as described in the Illinois Police Training Act or equivalent from applicants out of state.
  • Applicants must show they have been employed as a full-time sworn, certified law enforcement officer for the last two (2) years.
  • Applicants must show evidence that they are a US Citizen.
  • Applicants, at such time as they file their application with this board, must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Applicants must possess a valid FOID card or equivalent from outside the State of Illinois.
  • Applicant must provide a certified copy of their Birth Certificate.
  • If applicable, the applicant shall furnish any Military Service Records, including Discharge Papers (DD Form 214).
  • Applicants must provide a certified copy of their bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university showing they have received their degree prior to the date of appointment.
  • Applicants must possess a valid driver's license.

Selection Process:
Candidate hiring process consists of completion of a Village of Schaumburg electronic employment application, completion of pre-screening assessment (personality assessment), polygraph, interview with the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners,  character background investigation, post conditional offer examinations including but not limited to:  psychological evaluation, physical examination to include vision screening and drug testing.  The Commission from time to time may add, remove, modify, or replace any parts of the above hiring processes.

 

Each candidate must complete each phase of the process to proceed to the next.  The Commission may remove a candidate from the list at any point in the hiring process.
