This is a regional position covering the Midwest for Non-Acute planning, design and construction.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Solicits bids and analyze quotes and proposals from contractors or suppliers. Prepares or supervises the preparation of spreadsheets to compare bids. Coordinates bid packages with contract architects and staff architect.
  • Manages projects from conceptual plan through construction. Develops initial budget, validates budget through stages of architectural plans, and monitors budget through project completion. Manages planning meetings with user groups, architects, and coordination meetings with contractors.
  • Determines quality standards and specifications for projects. Ensures that projects comply with Advocate Aurora standards as well as all regulatory codes. Inspects, accepts, or rejects work in progress.
  • Facilitates and manages the project team and user groups. Work with consultants, e.g., mechanical and electrical engineers, (in accordance with supervision of projects), project leaders in the design and implementation of projects.
  • Develops performance standards and evaluate performance of outside vendors and internal staff including project leaders and administrative assistant.
  • Maintains and updates monthly construction report for Site Leadership meetings. Provides on-going review of hospital and clinic specifications and standards and coordinates with space management and interiors division for all moves and space needs.
  • Prepares master schedules and distributes to appropriate personnel. Monitors new and revised Federal and State rulings, e.g., Occupational Safety and Health Act, National Construction requirements. Assists Vice President of Planning, Design & Construction in preparation of capital development and allocation for projects in their region.
  • Performs human resources responsibilities for staff which include interviewing and selection of new employees, promotions, staff development, performance evaluations, compensation changes, resolution of employee concerns, corrective actions, terminations, and overall employee morale.
  • Develops and recommends operating and capital budgets and controls expenditures within approved budget objectives.
  • Responsible for understanding and adhering to the organization's Code of Ethical Conduct and for ensuring that personal actions, and the actions of employees supervised, comply with the policies, regulations and laws applicable to the organization's business.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

  • None Required.

Education Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, or
  • Bachelor's Degree in Building & Construction, or
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field.

Experience Required:

  • Typically requires 10 years of experience in construction management with majority of experience in health care field.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Good communication and mentoring skills.
  • Basic skills in computer word processing, scheduling, and account spreadsheets.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical data.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • This position requires travel, therefore, will be exposed to weather and road conditions.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
  • Exposed to a normal office environment.
