Overview | The vision of the Huskie Academic Success Center (HASC) is to provide comprehensive, accessible and dynamic academic support to NIU students. It is our mission to enhance student success, partner with academic colleges, and provide programming in a variety of modalities. We work toward accomplishing our vision and mission by providing:
HASC is part of Undergraduate Studies and is a partner in the NIU Founder’s Memorial Library Learning Commons. Offering a variety of academic support services, the mission of the department is to strengthen students’ ability to learn effectively and efficiently. This is accomplished through learning center best practices that are content centered and seek to understand the role of Tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, Academic Coaching, and the Writing Center at NIU and adapt to meet the diverse needs of students, faculty, and staff. |

Position Summary | The Program Coordinator for Course Support (SI and Tutoring) supports the HASC and university-wide initiatives connected to performance-based metrics on academic progress rate, transfer retention, and graduation rates. SI works in direct partnership with faculty and staff of various programs and departments to create learning experiences in support of retention and persistence efforts that are driven by student’s needs in high-risk courses. The coordinator assist with all aspects of the SI and Tutoring programs; engaging in strategic planning to grow the SI program, facilitating ongoing intensive training sessions of peer SI program leaders; overseeing aspects of recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and scheduling; and supervising and regularly evaluating SI leaders. The coordinator schedules HASC learning assistance activities and works with HASC Director on monitoring and assessing the effectiveness of the SI program, including conducting student surveys, tracking usage and progress reports, and providing impact analyses. |
