  • Work with engineers to understand design parameters research design solution and assist with the selection of materials and components.
  • Use SolidWorks software to refine designs and create virtual models of products
  • Collaborate with a team of manufacturing professionals and engineers to evaluate product prototypes to determine production feasibility and costs
  • Day to day activities will vary based on the project and phase of the project but will mostly be focused on creating new designs and altering existing designs. The Designer may be expected to interface with internal engineers, people from manufacturing, project managers, and various others involved in the release process. As a medical device company, training on our processes and detailed documentation will be part of the normal process.
  • Responsibilities include ordering of prototype components, tracking shipments, and inspection activities.
  • Utilize SolidWorks to create and modify complex and detailed models, assemblies, and drawings of new or modified designs from sketches, layouts or notes provided by engineering. Contributes design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or quality of product. Checks drawings versus the project input for correctness and conformance to standards. Works with engineers regarding model accuracy, design, drafting standards and ECN/ECR documentation. May work with system management including file maintenance, backup, and storage. Assists in preparation and incorporation of ECOs. May select materials and parts based on data and specifications. Creates parts lists for assemblies. Prepares less complex preliminary designs and layouts.
  • Designer/Drafters can expect to be given a portion of a design to implement. Working with engineers the Designer will then be expected to be involved in examining the problem, performing the design work as necessary, and document the design. In some cases, this will involve just updating the models and prints.

Job Skills & Qualifications

  • Robust SolidWorks (a minimum of 5 years recent experience) skills including the production of models, assemblies, and detailed drawings including familiarity with ANSI Y-14 and GD&T drafting standards. Proficient in utilizing business tools such as: E-mail, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience with Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, document control, and CAD vaulting software desired.
  • An analytical thinker who is energized by solving problems through design who can easily adapt to a team approach. Must be able to work with minimum of supervision and be able to complete multiple mechanical design tasks in an efficient manner.
  • Typical Education and Experience: Associates Degree in industrial design or equivalent and/or 5 - 7 years of related experience.
  • Experience with designing and documenting electromechanical designs including plumbing fittings, hardware, electrical components, wire harnesses, sheet metal, injection molding, and packaging. Good Design for Manufacturing (DFM) skills are critical.
