Job Description
WITHIN THE COMPANYThe Marking and Coding Group is under The Danaher Product Identification Platform (PID) and includes Videojet, Linx, Alltec Foba and Laetus. The companies are independently operated and manufacture and sell product marking and coding equipment, consumables, software and services.The position will be based at Videojet s global headquarters in Wood Dale, Illinois.WITHIN THE ROLEIn this position, you will work with the business and technical staff to develop and protect IP, drive freedom to operate processes, understand competitor IP, and educate and counsel management and technical staff on key IP issues; defining and executing business-specific IP processes and strategies to support a culture of innovation, including working with business and technical leaders to maximize competitive advantage through IP (equipment, consumables, software, workflows and connected devices).WITHIN THE RESPONSIBILITIESDrive IP creation, filing and enforcementSupport third party technology development and/or Open Innovation commercialization effortsSupport M&A activities from due diligence through integrationSupport commercial contracts organization with respect to IP issuesManage trademark portfolio and make recommendations on trademark strategyCollaborate with Danaher IP and Innovation Colleagues in other businesses to drive process improvementsWITHIN THE SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS8 to 10 years of legal experience specifically focused on patent and intellectual property work; working experience in a reputable law firm or in a multinational company, or combination of the two. In house experience preferred.Strong scientific and business acumen with the capacity to rapidly learn the businesses strategies and technical platforms. Experience leading business decisions on IP strategy, prosecution and litigation is important. Ability to present complex, technical or difficult messages clearly and persuasively at all levels of the organization.Ability to influence positively across functions, different companies, geographies, and management levels, but also leads and accomplishes by doing. This is a hands-on role where both tactical execution and longer-term strategy are important.Experience managing a budget to achieve business objectives.When travel resumes, ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed, perhaps 25% of time.WITHIN THE EDUCATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTSUndergraduate degree in Engineering or Physical ScienceJD degree from a US law school with top academic performanceRegistered to practice before the USPTOLicensed to practice law in at least one State, plus able to fulfill the requirements to become licensed promptly in IllinoisWhen you join us, you ll also be joining Danaher s global organization, where 69,000 people wake up every day determined to help our customers win.
