Gallo Winery has maintained long term contracts with our growers in Ancient Lakes, the Wahluke Slope, Yakima Valley, Horse Heaven Hills, Red Mountain, and the Columbia Valley AVA's. Our Grower Relations Department manages and oversees these contracts, ensuring that the fruit from these diverse regions supports the needs of our growing Premium wine programs for Columbia Winery, located in Sunnyside, Washington.

<span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Palatino Linotype",serif">The Grower Relations Internship Program is searching for qualified candidates to fill 3-6 month positions (June-November) within our Grower Relations Department. Coastal Winegrowing/Grower Relations strives to procure the highest quality wine grapes while matching demand for our wide array of wines. Interns will support the many different functions of our Grower Relations team, and will gain valuable experience in the following areas: GIS/map building and analysis, grower outreach, crop estimation, pest and disease scouting, harvest scheduling and delivery coordination. The intern's essential functions are as follows:

  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Palatino Linotype",serif">Support all Grower Relations operations.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Palatino Linotype",serif">Create and maintain reports to track yield estimation, grape maturity and phenology activity.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Palatino Linotype",serif">Use GPS technology and the Geographical Information System to implement precision farming and map vineyard infrastructure.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Palatino Linotype",serif">Participate in pest and disease scouting and help draft treatment thresholds for specific pests.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Palatino Linotype",serif">Assist with harvest activities including maturity sampling, harvest equipment preparation and quality control of fruit.

<span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Palatino Linotype",serif">Minimum Qualifications

  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Palatino Linotype",serif">High school diploma or <span style="font-family:"Palatino Linotype",serif">State-issued equivalency certificate.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Palatino Linotype",serif">Currently enrolled at a college or university and working towards a Bachelor's degree in the following majors OR have obtained a Bachelor's degree in one of the following majors: Agriculture, Plant Science, Soil Science, Hydrology, Geographical Information Systems, Environmental Science, Land Resource Management, Forestry Resource Management, Ag-Business, Business Administration, Winemaking, Biology, Ag Policy, Horticulture, Chemistry, Enology, Food Science, Viticulture, Ag Science.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Palatino Linotype",serif">Required to lift and move up to 40 lbs.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Palatino Linotype",serif">Required to climb fixed stairs with handrails and vertical ladders with hoop cages to a height of 12 feet inspecting wine surfaces and on top of grape trucks inspecting loads.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Palatino Linotype",serif">Candidates for this position must have a valid driver's license and a safe driving record. Required to obtain a California driver's license or appropriate state driver's license within 30 days of hire.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Palatino Linotype",serif">Driving to and from varying ranch locations is required.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Palatino Linotype",serif">Requires availability to work evenings, weekends and holidays when necessary.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Palatino Linotype",serif">Available for the minimum timeframe of the internship, approximately June-October 2021

<span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Palatino Linotype",serif">Preferred Qualifications

  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Palatino Linotype",serif">Junior or Senior class standing at a college or university and working towards a Bachelor's degree in the above areas of study.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Palatino Linotype",serif">Skilled at working with individuals from diverse and varied backgrounds.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Palatino Linotype",serif">General viticulture knowledge
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Palatino Linotype",serif">Grape pest and disease identification.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Palatino Linotype",serif">Computer skills: Microsoft Office, Excel, Statistical Analysis (MiniTab, SAS), GPS Mapping and ArcView at a basic level.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Palatino Linotype",serif">Basic ability to speak and understand Spanish.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Palatino Linotype",serif">Available for the entire duration of the internship, approximately June-December 2021

<span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Palatino Linotype",serif">Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Palatino Linotype",serif">Inside/Outside conditions: During crush, work estimated at 80% (50 Hours a week) outside with weather of varying types. Work will be performed on weekends, early mornings and some evenings.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Palatino Linotype",serif">Required to work mostly outside in Dusty/Hot /Cold/Rainy conditions.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Palatino Linotype",serif">Required to lift and move up to 40 lbs. Noise levels may vary. Occasional situations where ear protection is required.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Palatino Linotype",serif">Required to work at heights of 12 feet, on tops of tanks inspecting wine surfaces and on top of grape trucks inspecting loads.
