Overview:

HKS is looking for a Collegiate Sports Leader in our growing Chicago office.
This exceptional leader is a recognized practitioner in the Collegiate Sports industry who is primarily focused on Business Development and industry connectivity to expand the Sports practice in the Midwest and collaborating with the national Venues leaders at HKS. As we continue to grow our Collegiate Sports Practice and Portfolio, we are looking for this candidate to become an identifiable and influential leader, both internally and externally, contributing to the expansion of the practice. This role will have the opportunity to collaborate with and mentor talented individuals, as well as partner with other key leaders throughout HKS to strategically develop the practice and generate new business.

This unique person will also positively contribute to the overall leadership and culture of our Chicago office, working in a diverse environment with an established and talented team. He or she must possess the ability to lead and impact revenue and growth for multiple projects while being responsible for delivering exceptional solutions for clients on time and on budget. This leader is responsible for high-impact decisions across multiple projects and endorses the firm's values by personally influencing client service and innovation.

Responsibilities:

  • Acts as one of the primary client relationship owner, building and strengthening connections through a comprehensive understanding of their project and team mission, goals, policies, needs and progress
  • Helps manage the execution and delivery of implementation documents through all phases of projects, including post-occupancy evaluation and sharing/harvesting lessons learned and project impact
  • Collaborates on the design process including master planning, programming client needs, feasibility studies, conceptual and schematic design, design development, document preparation and construction administration
  • Helps in coordination of project team interaction both internally and all other project participants
  • Brings an understanding of urban and campus planning as well as collegiate athletics masterplanning, recognizing the importance of connecting campus sports with its various functions and stakeholders and connecting beyond the borders of the campus to the community
  • Integrates HKS expertise and innovation in all projects, while actively seeking opportunities to incorporate HKS best practices, sustainable design solutions, subject matter expertise and resources strategically and efficiently for the client, user and community
  • Assists in managing the project teams in collaboration with other disciplines to establish design solutions that can be technically implemented within the constraints of the project goals, budgets, available time and within local ordinances and codes
  • Participates in interviewing and mentoring employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
  • Exercises skills of persuasion and negotiation on critical issues through the scope of the project
  • Participates in public hearings and client presentations to senior executives, client user groups or public forums
  • Applies skills to minimize risks, maximize value and seeks means to improve efficiencies and reduce costs
  • Takes a lead role in new business development and marketing strategies, including looking for opportunities for repeat work with clients
  • Collaborates and strategizes with firmwide Business Development and other leadership on project pursuits, proposal development, marketing efforts and industry events to maintain existing client relationships and establish new business
  • Maintains current understanding of influences and pressures affecting the collegiate sports industry in design and development
  • Participates in marketing interviews
  • Identifies, maintains and cultivates essential relationships
  • Travel required

Qualifications:

  • Accredited professional degree in Architecture, Masters degree preferred
  • Architectural Registration strongly preferred
  • Typically 15+ years of experience including 10+ years in a leadership role
  • Collegitate sports projects experience
  • Sustainable design accreditation preferred
  • Firsthand and sustained experience in all phases of architectural design and construction
  • Recognized experience and interest in the pursuit and execution of projects in the collegiate sports industry and the issues and challenges they now face.
  • Familiarity in the capability and benefits of architectural and performance analytical software such as Revit, AutoCAD, 3D modeling, parametric design and performance analysis software preferred
  • Familiarity in the functionality of Vision
  • Experience in MS Office Suite, including Microsoft Project and Microsoft Teams preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of sustainability and integrated design guidelines
  • Advanced knowledge of architectural building systems and QA/QC process
  • Advanced knowledge of building codes, constructability and accessibility guidelines
  • Successful track record with managing a team and performing duties in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in logistics management
  • Genuine business development acumen
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time
  • Ability to manage team with diplomatic and collaborative leadership style which puts value on relationships and collaboration, both internal and external
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, concise and professional manner both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to problem solve, apply innovative solutions and think strategically
  • Ability to collaborate and encourage collaboration in a team environment
