Wunderlich-Malec Engineering is a 100% employee-owned ESOP and one of the largest and most well-established (35+ years) engineering companies in the United States - we have an Associate Controls Engineer position available in our Wilmington, MA office. This position will be responsible for controls engineering project requirements involving PLC and DCS programming, HMI/SCADA programming, control panel design, instrumentation specification, engineering documentation support, check-out support and commissioning assistance.
This position requires the Controls Engineer to conceptualize, detail and implement control systems for industrial processes and machinery that meet our client's requirements. This involves the development of a control system architecture, selecting the components to be used, detailing schematic diagrams and system documentation, programming controllers (PLC, DCS, RTU), programming the process visualization (HMI/SCADA), developing databases for archiving/displaying historical system data , developing validation strategy, testing computer system design and software, and implementing/commissioning the control system at the client's facility. Knowledge of controller IEC 61131- 3 programming languages such as Ladder, Sequential Function Chart, Structured Text and others to achieve the desired results will be required and training will be provided. Also having knowledge of standard programming languages such as Python, VBA, .NET and SQL for the development of HMI/SCADA systems is preferred.
For larger systems, expected to be hands-on with IT computing infrastructure and industrial networking used to connect control system components and instrumentation. The Controls Engineer would assist with design, detail and implement Operation Technology (OT) infrastructure, IT/OT integration, virtualization, networking and variety of fiber, wired and wireless systems using industrial protocols (Ethernet/IP, Profibus, Modbus, etc.).
The controls engineer must have the ability to generate validation strategies and documents supporting industrial control systems and relevant infrastructure. Expect to provide support to develop Industrial control systems' SOPs, qualification protocols, gap assessments, risk assessment, Impact Assessment, user requirements, functional and configuration specifications, requirements traceability, validation plans, validation summary reports and change controls.
