Job Description

Role Purpose
  • Provides global strategic leadership for profitable market share growth for global soybean seed business with the overall goal of achieving a market competitive position and above average market growth. 
  • Member of Global Strategy & Portfolio Management Team.
  • Develops global, multi-generational crop (germplasm & trait) strategy with commonality of trait packages (where applicable) to enable consistency across regions and use regulatory resources most efficiently.
  • Creates business model innovation beyond the product to enable Syngenta to participate in the growing global mega-trends of biofuels and alternative protein. 
 Accountabilities
  • Leads cross-functional team consisting of all functions required to support E2E seeds business (regional marketing, breeding, regulatory, technical experts in R&D, legal, finance, and P&S) to provide recommendations for crop strategy, priorities and funding to global strategy & portfolio team.
  • Facilitates input from regional crop leads, creates global strategy to provide direction for priorities and resources to R&D for soybeans globally, including biotechnology traits, germplasm, gene editing, and other emerging technologies.
  • Develops deep market and competitive analysis and in coordination with R&D prioritizes areas to focus.
  • In collaboration with R&D, standardizes the development / deployment of Target Product Profiles (TPPs) to enable a focused multi-year germplasm and trait product strategy.
  • Defines mechanisms for differentiation beyond the product (germplasm and traits), including value chain partnerships and business model innovation to enable Syngenta to participate in growing global mega-trends (oil and protein). 
  • Ensures regional alignment / implementation of TPP process.
  • Recommends new programs (breeding for a new crop/region combo or new genome editing/biotech program) or elimination of existing programs to Global Strategic Portfolio Team for approval.
  • Oversees the implementation of the crop business strategy across functions and geographies  
  • Establish the forums and networks required to drive a holistic crop view in support of the soybean strategy.
  • Champion the creation and management of strong product lifecycle management planning.

Qualifications

Critical Knowledge
  • Deep knowledge of the seeds business (germplasm and biotech traits, GTM, value chain, etc.) 
  • Passion and deep understanding of agriculture, marketplace dynamics, competitive environment and Syngenta customer needs.
  • Excellent creativity skills coupled with a strong customer focus orientation.
  • Excellent communications (i.e., PowerPoint, oral and written), interpersonal, negotiating, analytical, collaboration across boundaries, problem solving/decision making, teamwork and planning/organizing skills.
  • Thorough understanding  of key business drivers for profitable growth 
Critical Experience
  • Degree in Agriculture / Marketing / Business
  • 15 years of sales or marketing experience including Commercial Unit sales and marketing team management 
  • Experience in leading and developing a team of direct reports and ability to influence / lead indirect reports
  • Requires strong understanding of corn and soybeans end to end systems, and sales management. 
  • Experience in developing and managing an annual budget

  • Experience in utilization of MaSE methodology.
  • Strong collaboration across boundaries (commercial, R&D, P&S, legal, finance)
  • Strong grasp of financial metrics and analysis
