Job Title: CT TechnologistPosition number: 3608

FLSA Status:Non-ExemptReports to: Director/or designee

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the medical direction of a radiologist, performs computerized tomography (CT) procedures on a technical level without constant supervision of technical detail; performs a variety of technical procedures for both adult and pediatric patients requiring independent judgment to apply prescribed and

appropriate CT scanning techniques and protocols for diagnosis; assumes responsibility for the area and

procedures as required.

QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an approved two year program for radiologic technology.Must possess additional training and experience in CT scanning.ARRT registered radiographer.Prefer ARRT registry in CT. Current West Virginia license or eligible to apply for license.CPR certification or eligible.Demonstrates current knowledge of CT scanning practices.Demonstrates good customer service skills and teamwork attitude.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  1. Able to wear latex or vinyl gloves, with frequent changes and hand washing.
  2. Use a computer keyboard, monitor and mouse.
  3. Answer telephones and transcribe messages.
  4. Communicate verbally, written and electronically with healthcare personnel, families and patients.
  5. May be scheduled to work various shifts based on departmental and patient needs.
  6. May be required to travel between facilities/buildings.
  7. May be exposed to virus, disease, and infection from patients and specimens in working environment.
  8. May be exposed to traumatic situations including psychiatric crisis, physical injuries and death.
  9. Must meet Department of Labor'sMEDIUMduty standard (MEDIUM WORK-exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly)
  10. Able to bend, stoop, reach and be capable of normal rotation, standing and walking for an 11-12 hour shift.
  11. Able to lift 40 pounds from floor to waist.
  12. Able to ambulate, position, turn and pull up self-assisting adult patients.
  13. Possible exposure to:ionizing radiation and sharps.

  • A.CT TechnologistDuties and Responsibilities
  • 1.Explains procedures at a level the patient will understand(i.e. using a storybook for pediatric patients, speaking slowly and at a level that can be heard by geriatric patients, and displaying compassion, empathy and concern for adult, young adult, geriatric, neonatal and pediatric patients).Displays compassion, empathy and concern for adult, young adult, geriatric, neonate and pediatric patients.
  • 2.Produces images of diagnostic quality by properly positioning adult and pediatric patients.Selects appropriate equipment and technical factors by age group to assure good radiation protection practices.Forwards completed exams to radiologist for evaluation and dictation.
  • 3.Provides appropriate patient care as required.Practices sterile techniques and universal precautions. Administers first aid and CPR as required.Assists with administration of contrast media injections and with cases of adverse reactions to drugs and contrast media.Follows radiation safety procedures in the selection of technical factors and shielding of patients.
  • 4.Performs all general radiology, fluoroscopy, including portable and OR procedures according to established protocols and procedures based on the customer's clinical condition and age specific groupings.(JMC Only)
  • 5.Maintains adequate and appropriate records as directed.Responsible for documentation of clinical and technical history on patient.Responsible for accurate utilization of the computer to document patient and exam information and charging functions.
  • 6.Assures that all required consent, history and screening forms are completed and verified by signature of customer and/or legal guardian and/or physician, and/or technologist prior to performing procedure.
  • 7.Communicates with other health care professionals, including patient referral sources, verbally and in writing.
