Job Description

Drs. Justin Ryder and Thomas Inge are seeking a talented Post-Doctoral Research Associated to assist with several NIH funded projects. The Post-Doctoral Research Associate is assigned to the Division of Pediatric Surgery in the Department of Surgery at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital and Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine.

Research will be conducted in the growing Pediatric Obesity and Bariatric Surgery Research Program at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. The Postdoctoral Associate will assist with writing high impact publications from several NIH funded projects and assist with protocol development and execution for new projects.

The ideal candidate will be interested in any of the following areas related to the study of the disease of obesity: 1) energy expenditure regulation, 2) appetite and satiety hormones, 3) 'omics' - metabolomics, proteomics, genomics, 4) anti-obesity medications, 5) bariatric surgery. We offer a rich training environment for the right candidate to work on several high impact projects which will yield publications and abstracts.

This position requires the ability to work independently and, if needed, to collaborate with other researcher and core laboratories. Inquires and questions can be directly to Dr. Ryder and .

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Ph. D. or MD in Medical, Health or Biological Science Program required.

2. Knowledge in Computer programs, word, excel and power point presentations.

3. Excellent writing and communication skills.

4. Organizational skills: Ability to establish priorities and react promptly to a large variety of requestsand needs, sometimes in stressful situations.

Job Duties:

1. Design and implement research protocols; adapt new procedures, methods, or instrumentation relative
to research procedures.
2. Collect, prepare, and analyze research data; keep a detailed accounts of all research data; maintain
computer database of research data;
3. Tabulate and display data for presentation in research conferences and for manuscript preparation;
use graphics and statistical software to analyze and present data.
4. Search pertinent scientific literature and draft/edit manuscripts.
5. Help write grant proposals and progress reports related to research projects.
6. Present data in written and oral form at local and national meetings.
7. Provide researchers as requested with technical assistance.
8. Performs job functions adhering to principals of innovation, academic excellence and teamwork to
