Job Description:

Basic Function and Responsibility:

Under general supervision, coordinate the computing needs of the Language Labs on both campuses, as needed. Assist students and faculty with the use of lab equipment and software. Actively market the Language Labs and all the services/programs provided by and related to the Labs to the campus community.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure and maintain individual microcomputer workstations, operating systems, and application software. Provide general maintenance and test stations to assure PC components/software work properly.
  • Train and support staff, faculty, students and student employees in the use of hardware and software related to the Language Labs.
  • Work with IT support personnel to resolve computer problems in the Language Labs and plan for future technology needs related to computer usage.
  • Implement and create better tech practices including researching software related to learning languages.
  • Collect, evaluate and disseminate information on technology resources (digital video, software, Internet, etc.) for second language learning.
  • Provide lab orientations to classes and faculty members and present lab information to other groups.
  • Develop and maintain lab databases and backup other lab data. Create and update digital copies of lab materials and forms.
  • Assist the Lab Coordinator in the design of workshops related to languages, Lab functions, computer software programs, etc. for language faculty and students.
  • As directed, create, duplicate and distribute audio, video, and instructional videos to educate, students and faculty about lab resources.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating all Lab materials including, print, audio, video, and software resources.
  • Proctor exams and language exams using technology/software available in the Language Lab.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.


Requirements:

Qualifications and Working Conditions:

  • Associate's degree in Computer Science, Multimedia Arts or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable skills and abilities can be obtained is required.
  • One-year experience providing technical support (including maintenance and installation) to Language Lab specific computers and software is required.
  • A demonstrated ability or knowledge to work competently in all or most of the following operations is required. MS-Windows, Technical Writing, Advanced Electronic Spreadsheets for PC's, Database Applications & Programming for PC's, Microcomputer Hardware Systems and Networking Essentials.
  • Knowledge of web publishing software such as Dreamweaver and graphic design software such as Photoshop is required.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, orally and in writing is required.
  • The ability to analyze and project future technical needs of the Language Labs is required.
  • Knowledge of a second language/culture is preferred.
  • One-year teaching experience or workshop facilitation is desired.

Physical Demands:

Light lifting up to 10 lbs. and light carrying up to 10 lbs. Ability to reach above shoulder. Periods of time spent sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending and stooping. Mobility to move from building to building on-Campus and to visit off-Campus entities. Work is performed in a general office environment and is sedentary in nature. Little or no exposure to adverse working conditions.

Supervision Received:

Functional supervision is received from the Language Lab Coordinator.

Supervision Exercised:

Functional supervision may be exercised over student employees.

HOURS: Monday - Friday - 8:00 am - 4:45 pm - Work days will be split between the Des Plaines and Skokie Campuses (i.e. 3 days at the Skokie campus and 2 days at the Des Plaines campus)

SALARY: $47,248

Based on the needs of the college and with Administrator approval, some positions at the college may have remote or hybrid schedule options available after 30 working days.
