Job Description

OFFERING A $2,500 SIGN-ON BONUS PAYABLE IN TWO INSTALLMENTS - 50% AFTER 90 DAYS; 50% AFTER ONE YEAR

Major Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all principal accountabilities of a Speech Language Pathologist I
    • Meets all principal accountabilities / activities as identified for an Speech Language I
    • Assumes a more involved, complex patient caseload
  • Participation in educational / mentoring activities with Speech Language Pathology students, medical students, peers, Hospital staff and / or the community.
    • Assists with clinical education through training and instruction of students in the clinical setting.
    • Promotes Speech Language Pathology to other professionals and the community through participation in educational and marketing programs.
    • Provides in-services to peers in Rehab Services.
    • Assumes role of mentor for new team or program members.
    • May assist with orientation process.
  • Participation in Rehab Services growth and operations.
    • Assumes responsibility for major project or committee supporting established goals and objectives.
    • Participates in process improvement and quality assurance activities.
    • Participates in development of treatment protocols, service policies and procedures, and clinical competencies.
  • Responsible for staying abreast of clinical and operational developments.
    • Attends continuing education programs.
    • Keeps informed of changes occurring within Rehab Services and Advocate Healthcare.
  • Assumes other related responsibilities as assigned.


Licensure:

  • Speech Language Pathologist


Education/Experience Required:

  • * Masters degree in Speech Language Pathology * At least 2 years of clinical experience in medical setting. Maintains continuing education requirements as mandated by professional standards. Successful experience with supervision: senior level students and/or mentoring new staff/peers


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • * Good communication skills. * Independence in providing advanced level of clinical skills and expertise.
  • * ASHA certification (CCC/SLP) * Illinois state licensure Current BLS Certification


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Required to work approximately one weekend per month. Services provided on weekends, holidays and early evening hours. Lifts 20 to 50 pounds occasionally and/or 10 to 25 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly. May be exposed to hazardous materials and life-threatening diseases. Direct contact with bodily fluids. Ability to assist, escort, transfer, and respond to patient needs for extended periods of time. Required to work on weekends, holidays, and/or early evening hours as assigned, based on department guidelines. Off campus locations as assigned. Speaks English clearly, intelligibly and fluently.
  • This requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 08/01/2014. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
