Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary
Under the supervision of the academic department in conjunction with the Director of Prison Education, the adjunct faculty member will provide high quality teaching and classroom support for students in the Prison Education Program.


Responsibilities
Responsible to model the University mission through dedicated job performance, service excellence to constituencies, respectful collaboration and active support of the University's Mission and Catholic and Lasallian higher education.

-Teach one or more classes in discipline of expertise. Usually 1-2 courses per semester. Courses are 8 week accelerated and typically meet twice per week during day time hours.
-Available to travel for in-person instruction between 9am-3pm, 1-2 times per week to Sheridan, Kewanee, and/or Logan Correctional center. Reimbursement for mileage is available.
-Specifically in need of instructions to teach College Writing, Business Administration, Social Sciences, Humanities, Natural Sciences, and other General Education courses as needed.
-Prepare course materials, syllabus and update Blackboard course shells (LMS platform) as needed.
-Participate in required trainings and certifications.
-Serve as a model of professionalism and act as a resource for students within the teaching-learning environment.
Minimum Qualifications
Masters degree. Excellent communication skills. Must pass background check for IDOC.
Preferred Qualifications
While experience is a plus, faculty do not need to have experience teaching in prison but should have desire to work with individuals in custody. Those who do not have experience will have an orientation with director to discuss a range of topics from pedagogy to prison protocols. The Director will also provide feedback and support for syllabus adaptations.
