Job Summary:

As an Embedded Firmware Engineer with expertise in power electronics, bare metal programming, and Cortex Mx series microprocessors, you will play a crucial role in the development of low-level software and firmware that drives the performance and safety of our cutting-edge power electronic systems. Your skills will enable us to deliver robust, high-performance products that meet stringent safety standards and regulatory requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Embedded Firmware Development: Design, develop, and implement embedded firmware solutions for power electronics systems using bare metal, real-time programming techniques for Cortex Mx series microprocessors.
  • Extensive familiarity with complex signal processing algorithms and fixed precision implementations of the same.
  • Cross checking implementations with system level tools such as PowerSimTech and Matlab.
  • Power Electronics Integration: Collaborate closely with hardware and system engineers to integrate and test firmware solutions.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure firmware and software design adhere to UL 1998 safety standard requirements for software in programmable components, aiming for reliable and secure operation of power electronic systems.
  • Real-time Control: Implement real-time control algorithms and firmware to regulate power electronics converters, inverters, and related devices with a focus on precision and efficiency.
  • Testing and Validation: Plan and conduct thorough testing and validation of firmware designs to ensure functionality, reliability, and compliance with performance specifications and safety standards.
  • Performance Optimization: Identify opportunities for firmware optimization, code size reduction, and execution time improvements to achieve maximum efficiency and responsiveness of power electronic systems.
  • Debugging and Troubleshooting: Investigate and resolve issues related to firmware, hardware, and system interactions to ensure smooth operation and reliable performance.
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of firmware designs, algorithms, test procedures, and project progress for future reference and knowledge sharing.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in embedded systems, microprocessors, and power electronics technologies, and apply this knowledge to enhance firmware development processes.
  • Collaboration and Mentorship: Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, providing technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers in the firmware development domain.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field; Master's or Ph.D. degree is a plus.
  • Proven track record of 8+ years of experience in embedded firmware development, with a focus on bare metal programming for Cortex Mx series microprocessors.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of power electronics principles, including converters, inverters, and related control algorithms.
  • Understanding of UL 1998 safety standard and experience in developing software for programmable components in compliance with safety requirements.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++ and assembly language for microcontrollers.
  • Hands-on experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) and interrupt handling.
  • Familiarity with hardware description languages (HDL) and digital signal processing (DSP) is a plus.
  • Experience with debugging tools, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers for firmware validation and troubleshooting.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment.

On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting; close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
