ChampionX is currently looking for a highly motivated GHG Detection and Instrumentation Scientist in Houston, TX. The Instrumentation Scientist will be primarily responsible for leading the development and innovation of the greenhouse gas sensing program.

What You Will Do:

  • Work with other scientists and programmers to develop, test, and prototype new hardware to detect and quantify methane emissions. This hardware will be for use in our manned aircraft, UAVs or ground based systems.

  • Integrate selected instruments with off-the-shelf drones using manufacturer supplied APIs.

  • Define requirements and manage Development and, testing, and support of mobile device apps to communicate with selected data acquisition devices, focusing on real-time data for optimal situational awareness.

  • Work with customers to ensure their needs are being met, problems solved and ultimately our drones are accurately and reliably detecting and quantifying their emissions.

  • Based on customer discussions, constantly developing new technologies to increase the functionality of the emissions detection systems.

  • Embeds a culture of safety and ensures that all activities are performed in a manner that conforms to company safety and regulatory requirements and policies. Reinforces the company safety culture and holds self and other personnel accountable for good safety practice. Focuses on achieving our goal of zero harm to personnel and to the environment.

  • Participates on the RD&E Leadership Team providing scientific/technical counsel on scientific/technology advancements, new product and service opportunities, and improvements in operational/organizational efficiencies and productivity.

  • Ensures the development and utility of intellectual property, through patent filings, trade secrets, and the support of technical notebooks and reports.

  • Ensures ongoing external awareness of technology, competitors, and emerging and disruptive opportunities.

  • Undertake project tasks and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Advanced Degree (PhD or MS + 2 years' experience) in Engineering, Physics or related field.

  • Experience with designing instrumentation for scientific purposes.

  • Ability to work closely and communicate clearly as part of a small team in a collaborative environment is required.

  • Requires track record of successful technology development and leveraging of external technology.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to engage well with customers to translate their needs into effective programs.

  • Ability to apply analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Understanding of design, scientific procedures and processes, and data analysis.

  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite.

  • Complex programming experience and a strong desire to learn and grow in new advanced data techniques and software capabilities as the needs of the client change.

  • Self-Driven work ethic.
