POSITION SUMMARY

The BBH Markets Group within Service Delivery provides global support for the FX Trading, Securities Lending and Mutual Fund Services and Services activities of the Firm. The Markets division maintains staff coverage in regional locations in NY, London, Krakow, Tokyo, and Hong Kong.

The Department Head- Middle Office Operations is responsible for the management and direction of the department. S/he focuses on managing the day to day execution of programs, people and client relations through aligning processes and business goals. S/he oversees department operations and ensures success through implementing new objectives in terms of technologies, peer relations across business lines and product competitiveness.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Productivity/Operations Management

  • Ensure the smooth, effective operation of the department including: proper product delivery, proper escalation and resolution of high exposure items, maintaining the proper balance of cost, control and client service (3Cs), and maintaining proper standards and controls.

Control/Business

  • Planning - In conjunction with DE, develop, maintain and achieve an integrated Business Plan for the department which aligns the following in support of business goals and objectives: organizational structure, systems priorities, budget, management reporting, and job descriptions. The plan must support the business goals and objectives of the Division and Operations.

People Management

  • Develop staff members through appropriate recruiting, training, performance management and succession planning.
  • Develop a qualified successor(s) and partner with Human Resources on recruiting, hiring and orientation.
  • Ensure that the management team is properly aligned with the division strategy, goals, and objectives and has the information and tools necessary to progress.

Process Improvement

  • Develop and maintain a culture of results-oriented, continuous, process improvement including: developing and achieving leap goals, challenging all processes, procedures and practices, focusing on solutions (not "good reasons"), and keeping abreast of new technologies and applications and their implications for the department.

Client Service/Management

  • Assist business lines with client visits, presentations, walk throughs and other sales and client retention activities.
  • Build and foster effective and productive relationships with peers across business lines.

Product Development

  • Ensure standard suite of products is competitive, strategic, well defined and critical to our clients.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Education level and/or relevant experience(s)

  • BA/BS degree - 8+ years management experience
  • 10 to 15 years industry experience - Mutual Funds, FX or Securities Lending operations experience preferred but not required

Knowledge and skills

  • People management and development skills.
  • Results orientation and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills, particularly the ability to handle presentations of project plans and business cases.
  • Ability to communicate professionally during client visits, presentations, walkthroughs and other sales and client retention activities.
  • Experience in business analysis and process improvement.
  • Ability to anticipate potential problems and respond effectively.
  • Ability to motivate, develop and lead staff in a dynamic environment.
  • Desire to improve operational procedures.
  • Ability to coordinate cross-office initiatives.
