TRI-CITY/ST. CHARLES CORPS

POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Custodian

LOCATION/DEPT: Tri-City/St. Charles Corps

REPORTS TO: Business & Facility Director

FLSA CATEGORY: Non-Exempt

STATUS TYPE: RPT

OUTCOMES

Keeps Corps building, grounds, and equipment clean and orderly. Picks up donations and drives Corps vehicles as needed. Provides light maintenance and repairs as time allows.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Cleans all areas of building, to include offices, classrooms, chapel, narthex, kitchen gym, food pantry, bathrooms, hallways, and basement.
  2. Exterior property upkeep.
    1. Sweep sidewalks, entryways, and the parking lot to keep free of leaves and debris when necessary.
    2. Empty exterior trash receptacles.
  3. General upkeep and basic repairs to facilities and equipment.
    1. Requests necessary janitorial and maintenance supplies for order or pick up.
    2. Coordinate with Business & Facility Director to schedule routine service calls with outside contractors.
  4. Room set up, tear down and clean-up for various Corps and outside group programs.
  5. Cleans, stores, maintains, and sees to the repair of the equipment needed for the above-mentioned areas of responsibility.
  6. Seasonal cleaning of carpets, floors, refrigerators, kitchen range and hood, windows, etc.
  7. All other duties assigned.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Under the general supervision of the Business & Facility Director with some freedom to plan, schedule and carry out responsibilities within established policies and guidelines.

In contacts related to this position's duties this individual acts as a representative of The Salvation Army and its mission.

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS

This individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved, as well as the timeliness, accuracy, and completeness of accomplishing assigned goals.

A 30, 60, and 90-day performance review will be conducted.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred. Must be able to read and write English.
  • Previous janitorial and/or handyman experience desirable.

POSITION LIMITATIONS

  • This individual will only commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved.
  • This individual will keep the Business & Facility Director informed on all critical issues relating to their area of responsibility.
  • This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This position is required to do moderate to heavy physical work and must be able lift up to 25 lbs. daily.
  • In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use standard custodial equipment and operate a motor vehicle.
  • The work environment for this position includes an office, gym, classroom, and dock areas. and an outdoor environment with a low to high noise level. May work outside in inclement weather.
