Job Description

The Assistant Manager will be responsible for maintaining A3s to support the company's strategic view and senior leadership. Additionally, the Assistant Manager will be expected to work closely with front-line leaders, such as Team Leaders and Supervisors, to help them succeed in their jobs. The ideal candidate must possess solid problem-solving skills, constant attention to detail, a desire for accountability, and excellent communication, soft/people skills, and organizational skills.

Moreover, the Assistant Manager must have strong coaching and mentoring skills and be able to support the senior management in implementing action plans, scorecards, Lean Performance System initiatives, and enacting countermeasures when targets are missed. This role reports to the Manager of Assembly, who is responsible for providing strategic guidance to the assembly leadership and improving the business to meet the company's KPIs in safety, quality, delivery, cost and Human Development (SQDCH)

The Assistant Manager position is responsible for supporting and providing the resources for the Supervisors to run the product lines, interacting with multi-discipline areas across the company.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Promoting safety awareness, housekeeping, investigating, and reporting on safety incidents.
  • Setting and maintaining high levels of product quality.
  • Conducting team-building meetings to promote continuous improvement principals.
  • Maintaining a high level of on-time shipments to both internal and external customers.
  • Performing planning functions to ensure the timely availability of staffing and materials.
  • Creating and/or maintaining meaningful visuals such as KPI boards.
  • Coaching and mentoring direct reports in Problem Solving and other LPS/CI activities.
  • Conducting performance appraisals.
  • Making decisions regarding hires, promotions, corrective action, and terminations.
  • Identifying training and skill development to meet departmental needs.
  • Serve as a change agent by influencing, communicating, and institutionalizing a culture of simplification, standard work, process improvement and lean principles.

To select this job as one of interest to you, at a minimum, you must have the following:

  • Minimum four-year college degree in a technical discipline or commensurate experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of production supervisory experience in high and low volume environments where multiple shifts of operation were in play.
  • Demonstrated track record of lean manufacturing leadership, sustained improvements, and KPI attainment.
  • A history of team member development for upward mobility.

  • Standing: Some tasks performed in a standing position.
  • Lifting: Occasional lifting of items ranging in weight from 5 to 35 lbs.
  • Walking: Frequent walking.
  • Carrying: Occasional carrying of items ranging in weight from 5 to 35 lbs.
  • Pushing: Occasional pushing of items ranging in weight from 5 to 35 lbs.
  • Pulling: Occasional pulling of items ranging in weight from 5 to 35 lbs.
