Job Description
Essential Job Functions:
1. Verifies insurance benefits. Initiates pre-certification process and coordinates with parents to ensure authorizations are obtained.
2. Maintains communication with payers, Patient Financial Services, providers, ancillary departments, and other hospital services to ensure the facilitation of the authorization, pre-certification, and appeal process.
3. Reviews all outpatient accounts, identifying those accounts where re-authorization is required. Notifies clinicians and families.
4. Accepts, documents, and files all authorizations and pre-certifications received from providers, families and payers.
5. Completes full registration process as needed.
6. Maintains knowledge of government, managed care and commercial insurance requirements by attending educational seminars as appropriate.
7. Manages denied Rehabilitative Services claims until they are resolved, including but not limited to re-coding and appeal processes.
8. Compiles necessary clinical paperwork for submissions for requests for authorizations.
9. Other job functions as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. High School diploma or equivalent required. Associates Degree preferred.
2. Minimum 1-2 years of business office experience in hospital or physician office setting.
3. Familiarity with patient registration functions, insurance benefit verification, and financial counseling.
4. Knowledge of medical terminology, managed care requirements, and government agency regulations.
5. Ability to communicate effectively with patients and third party payers is essential.
6. Bilingual language skills preferred.
