Position Highlights:

  • Hours: Monday-Friday, 8AM-4:30PM

What you will need:

  • Education: PhD and/or MD required;
  • Certification: Has held a faculty appointment at the (research) Assistant Professor level for a minimum of 3 years, or currently holds an Associate Professor rank
  • Experience: At least 5 years of postdoctoral experience; has garnered external independent research funding as Principal Investigator
  • Skills: Contributes to 2-3 peer-reviewed publications, specialty comprehensive review articles, or textbook chapters each year; contributes as a primary author or senior author on some publications. Expected to serve as a Principal Investigator/Program Director for own externally funded projects while also leveraging their research contributions as co-investigator on other grants. Will commit about 40% effort to: providing research development consultation and mentorship for investigators across the health system; contributing to research education programs for clinical investigators and/or staff; facilitating dissemination of research findings; and providing scientific peer review for internal or external research grant applications.
  • Funding: Currently holds or has previously held NIH 'R-grant' funding or other similar competitive awards as Principal Investigator; expected to maintain 40-50% effort covered from research funding in this position, or have other research revenue to cover technologic innovations with a research focus.

What you will do:

  • Contribute to and direct scholarly efforts toward supporting the goals of research development across the health system as determined by Outcomes Research Network and Research Institute leadership. Current focus is on clinical and population health initiatives rather than 'bench' projects.
  • Under minimal administrative direction, develops and directs quantitative and/or qualitative research initiatives including observational studies, clinical trials, community-based studies, and/or systematic reviews, using both secondary data and prospective data collection approaches.
  • Serves in research advisory/collaborator role based on expertise in specific area of research focus, such as precision medicine, chronic disease management, health behaviors, healthcare quality & safety, community/population health, health disparities, or health economics & policy.
  • Assumes a key role in building multidisciplinary team science at NorthShore and assuring the maturation and successful external funding of these efforts.
  • Develops, implements, and reviews general research policies/procedures as necessary to assure the conduct of high-quality translational research.
  • Manages grants and projects on which he/she serves as Principal Investigator, including overseeing and directly supervising research personnel as needed.
  • Designs and performs complex research methods as appropriate for specific research endeavors.
