JOB SUMMARY
We are looking for multiple Research Scientists with a strong expertise in Geospatial Science (GeoAI, SAR/InSAR, computer vision and image analysis, hyperspectral remote sensing, photogrammetry, image/signal processing) demonstrated by publications and prior research experience. Recent Ph.D. graduates in geospatial science, geography, electronic engineering, computer science, or related disciplines are highly encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will conduct research in the Remote Sensing Lab at Saint Louis University under the supervision of Dr. Sagan. Specifically, we are looking to fill these positions in the following expertise: remote sensing-based seed composition estimation at multiple scales (1 research scientist), InSAR (Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar) change detection/calibration (1 research scientist), remote sensing-based measurement of greenhouse gas emissions and geo-carbon accounting (1 research scientist), and GeoAI (1 research scientist). Research Scientists will be funded by the following external projects with initial appointments for a year that can be renewed for multiple years depending on satisfactory progress and funding availability.
Seed-AI: Seed composition estimation from standing crops at global scale using satellite data, AI, and crop modeling.
Scaling up the industrial hemp supply chain as carbon negative feedstock for fuel and fiber.
Developing global InSAR solutions for change detection with enhanced regional calibration.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Identify compelling scientific questions, design experiments, and conduct ground-breaking research.
Participate in developing grant proposals for external funding support.
Drafting peer reviewed publications and project reports.
Process and analyze drone and satellite data (e.g., WorldView, Planet, SAR).
Participate in field surveys, deploying calibration sites.
Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Strong background in remote sensing, image processing, and geospatial data collection and analysis.
Advanced knowledge of new computational, analytical, or machine-learning methods.
Ability to work in a collaborative environment on team-based research.
Knowledge of Synthetic Aperture Radar and GeoAI
Advanced verbal and written communication skills, including presentations
Strong interpersonal skills including teamwork and collaboration
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
PhD in geospatial science, geoinformatics, geography, computer science, remote sensing, or related areas with strong geospatial skills. Record of scholarly research and publications.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Applications must include: 1) a cover letter; 2) a resume/curriculum vitae; 3) 3-page research project proposal (expected content: title, contact info, project summary, research plan including specific aims, preliminary work, potential outcomes, potential faculty advisor at Saint Louis University); and 4) one letter of recommendation from the applicant's Ph.D. mentor.
