Fermilab is seeking a Project Director for LBNF (Long-Baseline Neutrino Facility) DUNE (Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment) for United States operations. This position will report directly to the Laboratory Director.

The LBNF/DUNE-US Project Director will be responsible for the successful execution of the LBNF/DUNE-US Project, in conformance with the requirements of DOE O 413.3b and other applicable orders, and for meeting the established goals for technical, cost, schedule, safety and environmental performance. The LBNF/DUNE-US PD provides programmatic leadership, strategic planning, and general oversight of the LBNF/DUNE-US project and serves as the primary point of contact to external stakeholders and collaborators.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact between the LBNF/DUNE-US Project and Fermilab Directorate, DOE Program Manager and Federal Project Director, the rest of the LBNF/DUNE program and the DUNE collaboration leadership and external institutions engaged in the project.
  • Maintain close communication with the Laboratory Director or delegated representatives, other institutional partners, and all boards and advisory groups on the progress of LBNF/DUNE-US.
  • Coordinate with international and other partners in accordance with agreements with partners.
  • Work closely with the DUNE Coordination Office and with the DUNE collaboration leadership on mutual issues and concerns through established structures, such as the EFIG. Make periodic reports to the Collaboration and other governance/oversight bodies as appropriate to ensure good communication.
  • Oversee project staff of 100 employees, including direct and indirect reports.
  • Represent LBNF/DUNE-US to the broader physics community.
  • Confirm final acceptance of major systems and facilities; approve the start of operations.
  • Assure safety, security, and administrative performance of LBNF/DUNE-US.
  • Participate in the DOE Integrated Project Team in accordance with the DOE Preliminary Project Execution Plan.
  • Coordinate closely with the DOE Federal Project Director on all aspects of planning, budgeting, and project execution for LBNF/DUNE-US.
  • Manage all human resources actions for the assigned area including hiring, training, promotions, performance and merit reviews, disciplinary actions, and terminations, as may be appropriate.
  • Manage staffing selection for the senior management team.
  • Abides by and is responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum required Education and Experience:
Master's Degree with a Discipline in Business, Engineering or relevant degree and a minimum of 10+ years of large project management experience.

Applicable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required:

  • Previous experience executing large collaborative projects of $1B+.
  • Experience with large construction initiatives with federal, academic and/or private stakeholders.
