Primary Responsibilities

HDR is currently seeking a BIM Manager for our Building Engineering Services (BES) Business Group located in Chicago, Illinois. Our team is an integrated facility and infrastructure design team of Mechanical, Electrical, Structural and Site Civil Engineering. In addition, we offer specialty services consisting of Fire & Life Safety, Building Commissioning, Specialty Lighting, Controls Systems, OT Cybersecurity and Low Voltage/Security/Telecom. Our team works in a wide variety of markets including but not limited to Corporate/Commercial, Finance, Civic, Healthcare, Industrial, Water/Wastewater, Federal and Mission Critical buildings, and site infrastructure.

The BIM Model Manager will be responsible for implementation of the following within the Illinois / Indiana BES Business Group: Administrative oversight of Digital Design initiatives and the Illinois / Indiana BIM Leadership team, resource knowledge of production software, BIM training for Model Element Authors and Engineers-in-Training, troubleshooting BIM, and oversight and mentoring for model managers. This individual will also represent Illinois / Indiana BES for the purpose of coordination and implementation of all BIM initiatives developed by the overall BES Digital Design and Delivery program.

Software

  • Coordinate release of new BIM software with IT and BES Digital Practice Leadership
  • Evaluate BIM software, technology, and add-on tools in coordination with the BES Digital Design and Delivery program.

Standards

  • Responsible for the implementation and enforcement of production standards.
  • Enforce the use of standard template files and/or starter projects.
  • Provide ideas and recommendations for improvements to the current BIM project set-up configurations to the BES Digital Design Leadership.
  • Provide support for plotting and electronic file submission.
  • Development of automated workflows in BIM to support standards and productivity.
  • Provide quality control review of models and deliverables for compliance with production standards.
  • Assist in developing and enforcing BIM documentation and workflow processes.

Management

  • Provide leadership for the Illinois / Indiana BES BIM Users Group
  • Represent Illinois / Indiana with BES Digital Practice leadership in the coordination and implementation of all BIM initiatives.
  • Create strategies for the implementation of BIM including assessment of current workflows, development of implementation plans and oversight of implemented strategies.

Support and Training

  • Provide mentoring, training, support, and oversight for BIM staff or engineers to provide consistent project delivery.
  • Coordinate with BIM Systems Specialist in the hardware and network support of BIM production.
  • Development of internal learning resources and manage content on Pinnacle Series
  • Provide onboarding and fundamental BIM training to new hires.
  • Provide internal Revit training.
  • Coordinate internal training for Civil 3D, MicroStation or other design software as required.

Projects

  • Work with project managers to address the required project delivery standards including software platforms, project file management, project delivery requirements, etc. in the project proposal and project initiation stages of the project.
  • Document project specific standards and workflows working closely with Project Manager to be included in critical project management documents such as the overall Project Management Plan and project BIM Execution Plan.
  • Support implementation of client standards with the project team.
  • Assist model managers and project teams in BIM project setup.
  • Create Revit families in response to project needs. Coordinate Revit content creation with BES Digital Design and Delivery leadership.
  • Assist in troubleshooting BIM design issues.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Professional degree or equivalent in Architecture, Engineering or Construction preferred
  • Preferred 5 years AEC industry experience working on complex projects in a multi-discipline production environment
  • Aptitude toward technology and analytical problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Revit and related Revit Add-Ins, workflows, and associated software BIM 360.
  • Strong oral and written interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong presentation and training skills.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Autodesk products Civil 3D & Navisworks and BIM 360.
  • Familiarity with Autodesk products Dynamo, Forge, & Inventor is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Newforma is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Bentley products including ProjectWise, MicroStation Connects and OpenRoads is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Pinnacle Series & Knowledge Smart from Eagle Point is a plus.
  • Familiarity with MS OneNote, PowerPoint, MS Teams, & SharePoint, is a plus.
  • Experience in consulting with internal and external clients to develop content strategies is a plus.
  • Familiarity with industry standards for Digital Design & Delivery and data management.
  • Interest and familiarity with international practice is a plus.
