Job Summary (includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned)

The person in this role will be engaged in analyzing all markets in which Calpine participates. The person in this role will be responsible for performing research and modeling in the energy industry, answering ad hoc energy industry questions, and creating presentation materials.

Job Responsibilities

  • Developing or improving models to forecast supply and demand in key markets
  • Knowledge of energy transition technologies such as hydrogen, carbon capture, and energy storage
  • Developing or improving models to forecast commodity prices
  • Analysis of environmental regulations and the resulting impact on markets
  • Fundamental research
  • Creating presentation materials
  • Presenting analysis results to members of the senior management team

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; master's or higher level in a discipline such as business, engineering, or other quantitative discipline preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in the energy sector is required.
  • Familiarity with research tools such as Hitachi Energy Velocity, SNL, and Bloomberg
  • Familiarity with modeling languages such as Python, R, or Matlab
  • Experience with at least one of the following the electricity market, the natural gas market, the emissions market, and the renewable energy credit markets
  • Power plant operations
  • Strong Microsoft PowerPoint skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Should be able to work autonomously and accept responsibility; excel under the pressure of multiple deadlines.
  • Must be a team player accustomed to diving into issues, brainstorming solutions, and learning new methods and tools to address; results-oriented.
