ELS is hiring for the position of Sustainability Manager in Chicago, Illinois.

ELS is looking for a Sustainability Manager to join our team at our corporate headquarters in Chicago. The Sustainability Manager will manage the implementation of sustainability reporting and strategies, including but not limited to managing responses for third-party disclosure requests and managing content development for a corporate sustainability report, data management of key Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) metrics, and setting and measuring performance against targets. There will be periodic travel for meetings and property visits. Within the Asset Management Group, the Sustainability Manager will be expected to develop/execute the following:

  • Lead ELS' sustainability reporting strategy, including annual sustainability report and third-party disclosure frameworks
  • Responsible for data quality, management, monitoring of ESG data and key performance indicators (including energy, water, waste and greenhouse gas [GHG] emissions)
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop and improve plans on key ESG factors
  • Assist with developing and implementing enterprise-wide, sustainability programs, including solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
  • Promotes understanding and awareness of sustainability issues with senior management, team members and other key stakeholders

SKILLS, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability or related field, Masters preferred
  • 3-7 years experience in the utilities, sustainability and/or energy industry.
  • Background in sustainability reporting, carbon accounting and/or alternative energy.
  • Working experience with the Global Reporting Initiative Framework (GRI) and other sustainability frameworks including, but not limited to, TCFD and SASB.
  • Strong knowledge of greenhouse gas accounting principles
  • Possess excellent organization and project management skills with the ability to manage and complete multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills with the ability to assess operations and initiate changes to improve property performance.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions based on thoughtful analysis. Reasoning includes both concrete and abstract variables and requires regular interaction with Operations and Asset Management teams.
  • Strong oral and written communicator with the ability to effectively present information to senior management and respond to Operations and Asset Management teams, consultants, and contractors
  • Above average ability to perform word processing and data entry with strong Excel skills
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to travel
