As Sr Manager, Supplier Quality Engineering in Palo Alto, California you will fill a crucial role for the management of the North America based Supplier Quality program at Varian Medical Systems. This onsite role reporting to our Global Director of Supplier Quality will be responsible for directly managing a team of 12-15 SQE's located in the USA (primarily from our Palo Alto and San Jose locations).

In addition to leading the Supplier Quality Engineering team you will also drive our "quality at the source" initiative which focuses on proactive measures to prevent defects rather than detection downstream. This will require leading the team to enhanced upfront collaboration with suppliers to establish a more robust processes at the supplier and a higher quality output utilizing PPAP, SPC, Six Sigma, and Lean methodologies.

What You will do:

  • Lead the supplier quality engineering and supplier quality management teams for the Americas to ensure high quality and compliant materials and components are received for Varian production and service needs
  • Interface with manufacturing, product development and procurement and other key stakeholders to ensure all supplier requirements and controls are developed and implemented properly
  • Drive collaboration with Strategic Procurement in supplier selection and oversite including early engagement, qualification, monitoring, and development to ensure adherence to quality standards and foster continuous improvement. This includes collaborating on New Product Introduction (NPI) projects, managing product acceptance, and implementing robust quality controls.
  • Establish requirements for suppliers to meet process and quality standards for GMPs. Facilitates development of collaborative relationships with suppliers, ensuring long-term partnerships for the consistent delivery of high quality components and materials.
  • Develop systems and procedures for selecting and monitoring vendors and suppliers to ensure their ability to meet engineering and quality standards with quality at the source.
  • Ensure parts and materials received meet requirements in a cost-effective manner.
  • Establish requirements for suppliers to achieve process and quality standards for GMPs.
  • Facilitate development of team/partner relationships with vendors/suppliers and maintain relationships for long-term contracts for delivery of high quality components and materials.
  • Conduct supplier facility surveys and audits of potential critical components providers.
  • Select, develop, and evaluate personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.
  • Perform all required management responsibilities including but not limited to: implementing the company's policies, programs, and guidelines; ensuring employee productivity and growth; managing resources; knowing Varian's business; and maintaining functional, technical, and external market awareness necessary for managing immediate organization.


What You will have:

  • Typical Education and Experience: Bachelors Degree or equivalent in engineering plus 10 years of supplier management experience
  • 5 years management experience, and experience directly managing a team of 10+ personnel
  • Knowledge of supplier management requirements and controls including PPAP, SPC, Six Sigma, and Lean Methodologies
  • Medical Device supplier management experience
  • Knowledge of ISO, MDSAP, QSR and cGMP regulations and standards.
  • Ability, competence, and confidence to lead and manage a team that is transitioning from a hybrid model to an onsite model in order to meet the production quality needs.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to navigate conflict resolution
  • Proficient in utilizing business tools such as: E-mail, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with HCM (e.g., Workday) or equivalent ERP product and productivity software desired.

The base pay range for this position is

Min $140,400 - Max $252,800

The pay wage range shown is based on the job posting's primary location. Actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors, including but not limited to skill set, experience, certifications, and location.
