Test Engineer IV - The Test Engineer will work with internal customers and other subject matter experts to identify and conduct tests that verify new technologies and applications of Generac products. This involves 1st principles understanding of the technology, major variable identification, creating and executing test plans and procedures to verify the component, product, or system capability. This position reports to the Test Engineering Manager

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Designs test plans for prototypes, existing, and competitor products while mentoring others
  • Setting up test equipment and performing tests without guidance while mentoring others
  • Perform advanced data analysis and summarization with a variety of tools while mentoring others
  • Can quickly assess a problem and identify the key technical issues. Bases decisions on fundamental engineering principles and has a firm understanding of how the principles apply to the problem. Has an understanding of the assumptions involved and accounts for the risks
  • Black Belt/Gold; Owns and Leads CI/6? projects; Mentors others in CI/6? concepts
  • Demonstrated written communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to clearly present technical information to technical audiences independently
  • Ability to clearly present technical information to non-technical audiences with limited support
  • Ability to operate safely in a testing environment working with high voltages, temperatures, pressures and energy storage devices
  • Supports product R&D and verification development tests plans (schedule, cost, risk, performance)
  • Acts as a resource to mentor and teach less experienced engineers
  • Travel to other Generac facilities as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimal Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related discipline;
  • 7+ years of relevant work experience
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with power electronics/power converters, energy storage or similar energy technologies
  • Experience with engine powered equipment
  • Experience with accelerated reliability testing and analysis
  • Experience supporting NRTL Certification Testing (UL, CSA, TUV, CE, etc)
  • Ability to perform detail-oriented work with a high degree of accuracy on multiple projects;
  • Experience in new product design and development;
  • Applies engineering knowledge and experience to improve products, services and processes;
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced team environment with multiple customers and suppliers
  • Lead projects and complete projects within guidelines
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while mentoring others
  • Expert in the use of various mechanical, electrical, electronic measurement components and systems
  • Expert in understanding and application of electrical techniques and theories
  • Identifies testing requirements for the transition from or merging of ICE and electrified products
  • Can bridge the technical gap between ICE and electrified products
  • Experience with the design and development of power electronics
  • Demonstrated skills at determining the root cause of complex electronic system issues found in testing
  • Knowledge of energy storage systems, components, and testing

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel
