Area of Responsibility:

1. Management Reporting

  • Prepare status reporting for management review
  • Manage day to day activities and supervise tax staff;
  • Train tax staff on proper workpaper preparation and processes
  • Ensure quality service is being provided to clients by all employees working on client account;
  • Implement and maintain detailed timetables and ensure that everyone is aware of deadlines and works towards them.
  • Responsible for career development for tax staff - develop technical, analytical, time management, organizational and supervisory skills;
  • Prepare and deliver performance evaluations for tax staff and participate in review sessions.
  • Identify, research and resolve tax issues (consult with Tax Manager II as needed) and address complex client requests.

2. Monitor and Scheduling of deliverables

  • Assign and monitor departmental progress on various deliverables.
  • Responsible for managing and reviewing the work of tax staff throughout the year and managing all internal deadlines.

3. Income Tax Provision

  • Review the Fund income tax provision
  • Clear audit points

4. Security Analysis

  • Prepare and review the investment security analysis.
  • Coordinate with the Financial Reporting and Fund Accounting Teams
  • Clear audit points.

5. Income Tax Allocations

  • Review the income tax allocations to each partner.
  • Analyze special allocated items
  • Review application of management and incentive fees

6. Analysis of Structure

  • Consult and train others on funds structure to properly asses' investors' requirements.

7. Reportable Transactions / Flow Through Items

  • Review staff prepared footnotes including UBTI, ECI, State Sourcing
  • Review Reportable Transactions

8. Tax Planning

  • Review Tax Estimates required for the Funds
  • Work with the client to assist with investor questions
  • Be competent to analyze the structure and plan for investors.
  • Set up and attend meetings with operations group to identify key issues, increase knowledge of fund operations, and increase efficiencies of the information flow process.
  • Plan, schedule and manage the daily workflow for given relationships
  • Set up new clients within the tax process including system and administration needs
  • In conjunction with the Tax Manager II and Senior Manager, coordinate year-end tax reporting with client and independent accounting firm;
  • Document and maintain a file of all tax-related issues, resolutions, positions and methodologies by fund.

8. Risk & Control

  • Responsible for output of tax staff
  • Must comply with other internal control procedures as required.
  • Assist Tax Manager in ensuring compliance with all established departmental and company controls
  • Responsible for seeking ways to improve upon existing controls and mitigate risks associated with processes.

Education level and/or relevant experience:

  • BS/BA degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 5+ years of Partnership tax experience

Knowledge and skills (general and technical)

  • Proven ability to work with people and facilitate the smooth workflow between Investment Tax and other internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong client service skills
  • Strong supervisory skills with the ability to prioritize
  • Understanding of partnership tax related tax code sections, forms and elections, and tax adjustments of securities.
  • Demonstrate ability to perform a detail review of the entire tax package (including tax allocations and tax adjustments) to ensure a quality product
