POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Youth Program Coordinator

LOCATION/DEPT: Tri-City / St. Charles Corps

REPORTS TO: Corps Officers

FLSA CATEGORY: Non-Exempt

STATUS TYPE: RFT

OUTCOMES

Coordinates and participates in the activities of the after-school program and summer day camp of the Tri-City Corps. With Corps Officers, plans, coordinates, and participates in youth and family programming for the corps for all children (infant through high school). The position will require collaborative efforts with parents, staff, youth leaders, and Corps Officers. Represents The Salvation Army in the community through various outreach events.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Youth Programming (50%)

  • Coordinate schedule and activities of after-school program and summer day camp.
  • Maintain after-school and summer day camp finances according to TSA standards.
  • Provide supervision for after-school program and summer day camp staff.
  • Plan after-school program and summer day camp schedule, including off-site field trips.
  • Assist the Corps Officers with developing and directing youth outreach programming for 6th through 12th grade, including but not limited to youth programs, character building, music groups, and special events.
  • Coordinate all Camp Wonderland summer camper applications for corps and community youth and transport children to and from camp as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Administrative Duties (50%)

  • Maintain detailed enrollment records for all youth programming, including after-school program and summer day camp.
  • Responsible for recording and processing information relative to statistics, finances, communications, and evaluation for corps youth programs.
  • Create weekly and monthly program schedules for all youth programs, including detailed after-school program and summer day camp schedules.
  • Obtain CPR training for Adult, Child, and Infant within 3 months of hire.
  • ServSafe food safety certification, or willingness to complete within 3 months of hire.
  • Ensure all material used in any youth programming aligns with The Salvation Army doctrines and beliefs and reinforces the gospel message.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • Undergraduate degree in youth ministries, Christian education, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of two years' experience in youth work considered in lieu of related degree.
  • Valid driver's license and MVR clearance required. CDL is preferred but not mandatory.

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Suite.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Uses diplomacy and good judgment.
  • Demonstrated ability to use initiative and be a self-starter.
  • Attention to detail, procedures, processes, and policies.
  • A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible considering changing job positions/priorities.
  • A commitment to uphold and promote the mission of The Salvation Army and an appreciation of faith-based service organizations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This position is required to do moderate physical work and must be able to lift 25 pounds.
  • In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use a computer and other office machines.
  • The work environment for this position includes an office with a low noise level and a community environment with a high noise level.
  • Must be able to drive, walk stairs, and spend a lot of time on their feet.
  • Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters and maintains positive relationships with co-workers and supervisors. This would include but not be limited to such actions: resolution of conflicts in a positive manner; courteous treatment of staff, clients, and visitors; respect of others' property and person, professional and appropriate communication to and about co-workers, supervisors, and subordinates.
