Safety Specialist - St. Charles

Day Shift

Undergeneraldirection of the sitemanagement, the Safety Specialist serves as a leadcontactandassists the site withthedevelopmentandtheimplementation of health and safety regulatory programs; develops procedures, training, and audit programs to enhance site Health & Safety programs; takes part in maintainingsafe workplace for employees by assisting with the prevention of accidents andthehandling of near miss, first aid, and recordableincidentsandbymaintaining and exceeding regulatory compliance; and assiststhesite to ensure that Health & Safety culture is integrated in a consistent mannerintooperations and supporting services.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs H&S assignments using 5S and safety conceptsand principlesto anticipate,identify,evaluate, and mitigateHSEhazards for manufacturing,laboratory,and maintenance work areas and activities.
  • Lead H&Simprovementteams, conduct Job Safety Analysis,andrepresentH&Sdepartmentin MOCmeetings and coordinate with regulatory agencies, emergency responders, risk insurers,internalcustomers on safetyissues.
  • Ensure all incidents andnearmiss reports are investigated properly-withadequacyand completeness-andensure thatidentified corrective actions areimplementedand tracked to ensure sustainability to prevent re-occurrence.
  • Represent the site with regulatory agencies and prepare and manage preparation of all H&S submittals to these agencies.
  • Primary responsibility for developing and conducting plant H&Strainingand ensuring proper communication of health and safety issues.
  • Conduct auditsofthe H&S programs, review results, and prepare andensurecorrective actions areimplementedand sustained; Review existing H&S policies andrevisedpolicies as needed.
  • Assume role ofERTincident commander,provideERTtechnical support,andmaintain ERT equipmentinconjunction with PlantManager or delegate.
  • Managecompliance,plant safety statistics/data management,recordkeeping, and reporting requirements.
  • Implement and maintain/continue to improve H&S procedures and processes.
  • Attend training as required tomaintainthe required certificationsandact as a resource to site employeesaddressinghealth and safetyconcernsonthe plant floor.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Associateor Bachelor's degree in industrial safety, or associated area such as science or engineering
  • 3+years'experiencein a manufacturing environment, preferably chemical processing
  • Excellent oraland written communication skills, including presentation skills-withtheability to effectively address multiple client service requests and communicate to diverse audiences
  • Clear understanding of OSHA regulations and H&S programs (including but not limited to emergency response, hazard recognition and control, HazCom, hot work, ergonomics, LOTO,
  • confined space, etc.)
  • Strong leadership andinterpersonalability to work cross-departmentally, with regulatory agencies at the local, state,andfederal. Must interact withthepublic and other external parties constructively on H&Sissues
  • Able tohandle multiple tasks and meetdeadlines,of'ten andated externally
