Summary

Saint Xavier University is seeking an experienced and energetic academic leader to serve as an assistant provost for academic quality. The assistant provost will report to the provost and assist in advancing the University priorities related to academic excellence and faculty support. The assistant provost must be respectful of and conversant with SXU's Catholic Mercy heritage and committed to advancing its vision and core values informed by its religious identity. The new hire must be aligned with the university's mission and strategic direction as a student-centered and teaching-focused institution where the primary goal is the success of our graduates. The successful candidate is expected to support the university's diversity, equity, and inclusion values and initiatives to strengthen the sense of belonging for all students and employees.

Saint Xavier University is advancing its performance-based culture with institutionalized system of accountability and the new hire is expected to clearly communicate expectations and administer the university's academic policies and procedures across the institution. The new hire will help advance academic excellence by facilitating curricular and new program development, leading program review and assessment, supporting student engagement, learning, satisfaction and success, and assisting in faculty hiring, professional development, and evaluation.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serve as a member of the academic leadership team and work in collaboration with deans and programs to execute Academic Affairs Strategic Priorities.
  • Complete all tasks with the highest quality and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a regular presence on campus and help strengthen the SXU sense of community. Engage actively in the life of the university through participation in campus events and encourage faculty and staff to participate.
  • Contribute to the development, communication, and consistent implementation of academic policies and procedures across colleges and programs.
  • Collaborate with the academic affairs team to review college structures, policies, and procedures to ensure the efficiency of operations.
  • Work with the provost and enrollment team to identify and develop new programs that are mission-aligned and market-driven.
  • Work with faculty and university offices to meet enrollment, retention, and graduation goals.
  • Work with the deans and program faculty to create a supportive environment conducive to learning, service, and scholarship that will lead to intellectual vitality and student success.
  • Assist in managing personnel matters related to faculty and staff in Academic Affairs.
  • Promote interdisciplinary and inter-college collaboration and help enhance the spirit of cooperation among the various departments and faculty.
  • Work with the library staff to manage library materials and instructional resources.
  • Ensure each program has clear goals, a compelling value-proposition and distinctive educational experiences that lead to competence, character building and career success for all graduates.
  • Review and propose changes to student advising to improve the educational experience, student satisfaction, and completion rate.
  • Lead institutional assessment planning and implementation to ensure the completion of annual program reviews, assessment reports, and use data to improve curriculum and student outcomes.
  • Lead accreditation and compliance expectations for the University and specialized programs.
  • Evaluate the academic calendar and course schedules for efficiency and alignment with 4-year plans to ensure timely student progress and degree completion.
  • Support the continuous improvement and distinction of the General Education program.
  • Lead faculty professional development activities and facilities training that strengthens instructional delivery and faculty growth.
  • Work with the provost and deans to improve the faculty evaluation process so it is transparent with clear expectations and consistent accountability.
  • Work with deans to ensure a thorough review of course evaluations and use the data to improve curriculum and instruction.
  • Provide faculty workload oversite in collaboration with deans and programs.
  • Support the hiring, development, and evaluation of adjunct faculty.

Provide graduate education leadership and support Academic Affairs budget management

Qualifications

  • An earned doctorate with a track record of academic achievements in leadership, teaching, service and scholarship with three years of experience in an academic leadership role.
  • A track record of successful academic and administrative management at the department, college or university level.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Forward-thinking leadership style and clear understanding of the challenges facing higher education.
  • Collaborative leadership style and the ability to bring others on board to build momentum towards a common goal.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to articulate a compelling message to all audiences.
  • Strong financial acumen and the ability to utilize data in decision-making.
  • A personal commitment to the education of a diverse student body.
  • Experience implementing strategic plans, project management, performance management, and budget management.
  • Knowledge of online education, technology, and its impact on pedagogy.
  • Experience spearheading curriculum development and new academic programs grounded in mission and markets.
  • Demonstrate integrity in all aspects of one's life coupled with a strong work ethic and commitment to continuous improvement in a culture striving to become more performance-based.
  • Energy, passion, openness, flexibility, and an abiding sense of humor.
