The Departments of Psychiatry at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and the Pritzker Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago are seeking a full-time psychologist in a non-tenure-eligible Assistant Professor or Instructor role, in the Clinician-Educator track, to join a multidisciplinary team providing diabetes care services to pediatric patients at a nationally ranked, freestanding children's hospital located on the Feinberg School of Medicine campus.

Qualified candidates will join a growing psychosocial service within our growing diabetes program, and provide services to children, adolescents, and their families with Type 1, Type 2 or pre-diabetes. Responsibilities associated with this role will primarily include:

  • Meeting newly diagnosed families to provide psychoeducation aimed at facilitating family-focused adaptation and coping to a new diagnosis. Some of these meetings will occur while the family is in the hospital and some will occur during the family's first outpatient clinic visit following diagnosis
  • Completing inpatient consultations for any youth admitted due to poor diabetes control (including DKA) to assess psychosocial factors that may contribute to poor diabetes outcomes
  • Participating in interdisciplinary outpatient diabetes clinics and providing brief assessment and treatment during the clinic visits
  • Teaching and research. As the service grows, opportunities to offer outpatient psychotherapy to youth and their families will also be available.

Qualified candidates will have obtained a PhD or PsyD in a psychology training program and completed an APA-approved internship specializing in clinical child or pediatric psychology. At least one of training programs must have been APA-approved. It is preferred that this individual have fellowship-level training in pediatric psychology which includes the evaluation and treatment of children and adolescents with complex medical needs. It is also preferred that this individual have training related to diabetes care.

Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience. Full-time position. Start date immediate after licensure in Illinois. Applications will be evaluated as received. The start date is negotiable, and the position will remain open until filled.
