Job Description

Ryan Companies US, Inc. has an exciting internship opportunity for the summer of 2024 within the Architecture and Engineering (A+E) group to engage with projects in the office, multi-family, healthcare, senior living, and industrial sectors in Minneapolis, Chicago, or Phoenix as a Civil Engineer Intern.

This position requires a creative, innovative, collaborative and forward-thinking student enrolled in a design program focusing on Civil Engineering. This person will be working under direct supervision of a licensed professional to gain experience in multiple areas of their design discipline. The successful candidate will be willing to take specific direction on project and department activities and execute in a professional manner.

During the internship, you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Work on various phases of project design from concept through construction administration.
  • As part of an integrated design-build company, department tours through active projects offer an in-depth look at how designs in the computer come together in the built environment.

As a Civil Engineering Intern, you can expect to:

  • Get experience in: site due diligence/research; performing basic CAD drafting tasks; performing hydraulic/hydrologic engineering calculations; storm water modeling; and project plan production.
  • Serve as a team member responsible for performing general administrative tasks, which could include, but isn't limited to: online research, project filing, plan or report reproduction, etc.

You will stand out if you have:

  • A strong desire to work in an integrated design-build firm.
  • Basic knowledge and/or experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D

Qualifications

Currently enrolled in an accredited program related to Civil Engineering, at most, 18 months from your anticipated graduation date.

Relevant professional or educational experience preferred

Strong organizational skills

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Ability to collaborate with a diverse team

Knowledge of various software programs including AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bluebeam, and MS Office Suite preferred

Willingness to learn various aspects of the design process including; Conceptual Design, Client Presentations, City Codes, Documentation, Construction Administration, and Constructability.

Roles and Responsibilities

Works under direct supervision of Design Leader, Design Project Manager, and other team members to do the following tasks:

  • Conduct site due diligence and constraint analyses.
  • Assist in code reviews and regulatory/entitlement approval process.
  • Assist in site planning for various projects and pursuits.
  • Execute documentation for coordination and construction.
  • Work on projects as a collaborative member of a design team.
  • Work with the project team to create complete and thorough design documents to meet project goals, milestones and schedule.
  • Solve problems and resolve technical issues.

Participates in design meetings, consultant meetings and project team meetings.

Performs tasks with a high level of collaboration

Organize and maintain project files, scan, copy, print, and transmit original working drawings of current projects.

Open to learning through listening and asking questions of team members and mentor(s).

Establishes and pursues annual goals; based on personal, professional and company growth in the industry.

Contributes to Ryan culture through participation in office activities, initiatives and learning programs.
