Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with collections development through donor outreach, artifact assessment, preparing/evaluating acquisition proposals, marking/labeling, documenting, photographing, rehousing, and storage.
- Assist with maintaining galleries, collection storage, workspaces, and research areas.
- Creates, implements, and evaluates public and educational programs and materials to support the museum's mission and collections, also in conjunction with temporary exhibits, museum outreach initiatives, and University events.
- Coordinate program logistics and provide event support for public programs, workshops, lectures, and education programs/events.
- Work with the University Marketing and Communication (UMC) to develop content and plans for advertisements, press coverage, web content, and other promotional materials in a timely manner.
- Create, develop, and implement tours of permanent and temporary exhibits, and lead tours as needed.
- Coordinate and train volunteer docents to lead public and school tours.
- Work with our internal classes/departments to support student/faculty/staff programs as well as collaborate with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Establish, support, and sustain the museum's educational and cultural resources.
- Maintain timely and accurate program statistics. Prepare reports as needed.
- Professionally and courteously handle inquiries via telephone and email.
- Supervise volunteers, interns, and student workers as needed.
- Assists in opening and closing the museum to the public.
- Staff the museum's reception desk on occasion/as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and/or Work Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
1-2 years of event and/or housing (hotel, hospitality industry) experience.
Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in related field and three to five year's related experience.
- Master's degree preferred in art, art history, museum studies, or a related field.
- Three to five years of experience coordinating public programs, including: developing activities/performances/programs/lectures that meet organizational goals, overseeing contracts, coordinating program/event support staff, complying with facilities requirements, and collaborating with the marketing department on publicity.
- Ability to forge and maintain effective working relationships with various individuals. Exhibits an awareness and sensitivity to cultural and other differences when working with representatives of public and private organizations, volunteers, vendors, museum staff and the public.
- Strong written/oral communication and organizational skills and public speaking abilities.
- Some experience in artifact handling and collections/arts management or willingness to learn.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including mornings, evenings, and weekends to facilitate programming and events.
