Vedder Price's Chicago office is actively seeking a dynamic individual to join our accounting team as a Staff Accountant. This role presents an exciting opportunity for career growth within a collaborative and innovative environment. Working closely with Senior Accountants on the General Ledger (GL) team, the Staff Accountant will engage in various aspects of month-end close while fostering collaboration with team members across all accounting groups. This role also provides a unique chance to work on special projects and assignments in direct collaboration with our management team (Controller, FP&A Director, and CFO) and play a vital role in our firm's ongoing growth journey, particularly as we implement the new accounting systems.

As the Staff Accountant, your duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Prepare monthly bank and Balance Sheet reconciliations for both domestic and foreign accounts.
  • Proactively address and resolve reconciling items to maintain clean and accurate reconciliations.
  • Collaborate with Senior Accountant and Senior Analyst in monthly closings and year-end processes.
  • Prepare and enter journal entries to support the generation of financial statements.
  • Assist in various financial reporting processes throughout the month.
  • Work alongside tax team to assist with the required monthly/quarterly/annual tax filings. This includes multi-state sales and use tax filings.
  • Assist with the preparation of audit workpapers.
  • Add value on assigned special projects, leveraging your skills to contribute to team objectives.

Qualifications & Required Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
  • One to two years in a similar position for a law firm or professional services firm preferred.
  • Position requires the ability to work under pressure to meet strict deadlines.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be proficient in the following software:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Familiarity or previous experience with Elite Enterprise and 3E preferred
