Job Description

Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate need for a Project Manager - Construction Management Group. The Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing capital project activities as part of the corporate capital project team. Their duties include planning and execution of capital projects collaborating with individual plant engineering, procurement, vendors providing materials, equipment, and site construction services at Cleveland-Cliffs facilities based in Northwest Indiana.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Lead and plan capital projects assigned to the Captial Engineering group
  • Provide regular status reports on projects on the key project aspects of safety, quality, schedule, and budget categories
  • Participate and assist in corporate training of project management topics
  • Assist in creating efficient project management processes within the Cleveland-Cliffs corporation
  • Assure that the developed and distributed program specific processes and procedures are implemented and followed as necessary to meet quality and safety compliance requirements of the Engineering Department
  • Responsibly control the assigned project-specific budget and provide input to the responsible plant engineering manager for managing the annual plant budget
  • Collaborate with other Construction Management Engineering teammates, Plant and Area Engineering Managers and departments
  • Forge and maintain relationships with steel-related organizations, engineering, equipment suppliers, material suppliers, and construction contractors

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil/structural, mechanical, or electrical engineering or construction engineering and management
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in heavy industrial construction environment
  • A strong aptitude to planning for safety, quality, and efficient project execution.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software with emphasis on the Excel and Project applications
  • An understanding and positive overriding philosophy regarding the safety of all personnel working in each area facility.
  • An aptitude for managing project risk.
  • An appreciation for the complex nature of the steel industry and the importance of each component of its physical plant and their relationship to the continued safe and productive operation of the facilities.
  • Well documented history of related multidisciplinary engineering experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in heavy industry environment
  • Minimum of 3+ years of relevant experience in managing steel industry construction outages
