Responsibilities

The Corporate Information Services Department is seeking a dynamic and talented System Engineer I.

The System Engineer I supports infrastructure and system administration of the Windows based servers hosting enterprise applications housed in the Corporate Datacenter. Performs activities related to system administration. Provides technical skills needed for building and implementing new servers for the datacenter. Performs updates, system performance management, and security audit and remediation. Demonstrates intermediate knowledge of server hardware and operating systems software. Researches issues on systems for which they are responsible. Works with the vendors to correct issues and communicates with the Application owners and end users. Maintains responsibility for the installation, maintenance, configuration, and integrity of software. Implements operation system enhancements that will improve the reliability and performance of the system.

Key Responsibilities include:

System Maintenance and Support:

  • Completes maintenance-related Customer Support Center Tickets.
  • Implements server and hardware configurations, hardware moves and migrations. Regularly meets with users, vendors, and IS staff to develop/modify system specifications.
  • Participates in design solutions for technology and prepares the appropriate documentation.
  • Provides oversight and continued back-up to on-call support.
  • Establishes and maintains regular communications with user community.
  • Manages various Windows operating systems, HP, Dell, and Cisco UCS hardware
  • Maintains server and hardware configuration, as well as hardware moves and migrations.
  • Assists with Operating System installations including patches and upgrades
  • Demonstrates the ability to manage Multi-Facility Hardware structure.
  • Follows Change Control process for all changes and verifies testing is complete.
  • Assesses system requirements and identifies potential problem areas while recommending practical solutions.
  • Uses advanced problem-solving and analytical skills to implement, update and support complex application systems.

System Implementation:

  • Manages one or more projects.
  • Oversees and implements server and hardware configurations, hardware moves and migrations.
  • Regularly meets with users, vendors, and IS staff to modify system specifications.
  • Approves design solutions for technology and prepares the appropriate documentation.
  • Adheres to appropriate UHS Project Management standards.
  • Follows work plans, reporting all serious deviations to management.
  • Follows Change Management Policies and monitors that strict adherence is followed by all team members.
  • Complies with Domain strategy.
  • Contributes to technical design sessions with the application teams ensuring that architecture standards are followed.

Administrative Duties:

  • Continues training and sessions with team members to ensure skills are maintained and increased for performance of their duties as required.
  • Creates and updates System Documentation for assigned systems.
  • Provides technical support and guidance to other team members as required.
  • Works well with IS Vendors and maintains relationships with key firms.
  • Updates project status for publication on a regular basis.
  • Interacts with consultants and third parties as needed.
  • Maintains Service Excellence principles.

Qualifications

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • One or more years of responsibilities of Information Systems management experience preferably with Windows Server, VMware, Active Directory, and system troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of Windows Server operating systems and some Linux knowledge preferred.
  • Skilled with Server hardware architecture, configuration, as well as troubleshooting HP, Dell, and Cisco UCS platforms.
  • Operating System installations and configuration including patching.
  • Experience working with complex Multi-facility solutions and architecture.
  • Ability to work off hours and on-call when required.
  • Self-motivated and able to interact with all levels within the organization.
  • Initiative to resolve issues proactively. :
  • Knowledge of system management, application implementation, enhancement, support methods, and change control processes.
  • Working knowledge of server system analysis, troubleshooting techniques and standard procedures, including: consulting with users to determine Virtual, physical, software or system functional specifications; and development, documentation, analysis, creation, testing, configuration, or management of computer systems.
  • Knowledge of IS standards and quality methods and metrics.
  • Initiates performance monitoring and tuning.
  • Knowledge of project management methods.
  • Working Knowledge of user business practices, concepts, and terminology to support the applications.
  • Ability to engage third party suppliers to resolve outstanding issues.
  • Time management and organization skills and ability to manage multiple projects at once.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.

License or Registration Requirements: Possess at least one professional certification is preferred.

Travel Requirements: 5-25% based on projects
