What to expect

Generac Clean Energy Solutions is seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to join the manufacturing engineering team to design manufacturing and testing equipment for clean energy solutions. You will be working cross functionally with product design engineering, manufacturing engineering, test engineering , and contract manufacturers across North America. You will be designing tools, production and test equipment for the NPI line. The tools and equipment will then go through design cycle iterations to be used at the contract manufacturer facility.

You will be based out of Reno, NV but you will need to travel to other engineering sites as needed: Boston, Maine, and Vancouver.

What You'll Do

  • Prepare overall machine design concepts for custom designed, special purpose equipment and systems
  • Detail machine design including creation of machine layouts, detailed part drawings, assembly drawings, and mechanical bill of materials
  • Conduct design reviews for internal team feedback for cross-functional presentations
  • Be a liaison between product engineering and manufacturing departments
  • Specify and source commercial components pertaining to your designs
  • Coordinate with internal and external machine shops to fabricate machined components
  • Support prototype and design validation builds: design and deliver prototype manufacturing tooling, prepare bill of process, lead manufacturing trials for designed equipment, etc.
  • Work with technician teams to assemble and dial in equipment
  • Validate equipment performance and repeatability
  • Lead conceptual equipment development and carefully balance product specifications, process requirements, layout complexity, cost, and lead-time limits

Minimal Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field from an accredited institution, or equivalent
  • 7+ years of experience as a Mechanical/Mechatronics/Test/Automation Engineer
  • Extremely strong mechanical aptitude and ability to conceptualize and create mechanical designs
  • Proficiency in using solid modeling CAD design software (SolidWorks highly preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of material properties and applications
  • Strong understanding of drafting standards and the application of GD&T
  • Experience with automation equipment design and custom machine-building
  • Experience with Testing equipment design, Inspection Machines, In circuit testing equipment, Functional Test Equipment
  • Understanding of common machining processes and capabilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with specific ability to write at a professional and technical level
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Ability to travel internationally to engage with manufacturing partners.
  • Travel required ~ 20%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience performing DFM/DFA/DFT
  • Experience creating technical specifications for manufacturing equipment
  • New product Introduction and Manufacturing Operations experience
  • Proficient in the development and deployment of PFMEAs and DFMEAs
  • Record of developing multiple quality products into production
