Working at Rimkus as a Civil or Structural Engineer could be the most fun and rewarding work experience of your life! Our consultants work approximately three days a week in the field and two from home. They work both alone and as part of a team which includes a variety of engineering disciplines, architects, and scientists, to determine the root cause of a variety of incidents. Join our Indianapolis team which services clients throughout the state of Indiana and surrounding states. Candidates that reside in the Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, South Bend, Lafayette, and Crown Point/Merrillville areas will be considered.

The Salary Range for this position is $95,000 - $115,000 and is dependent on education, experience, location, and certifications/licensure.

The ideal candidate has broad experience within the engineering and/or construction fields with any of the following work experience: design, construction, field experience, or construction management/ administration experience in any civil discipline. They should be curious and have the natural ability of deduction and enjoy solving problems. Preferred experience includes consulting, design, construction, and knowledge of building codes.

In this position you will apply your technical knowledge and previous work experiences to help assess and determine the origin and causes of failures for a large variety of complex and unique problems for our clients. Some of these problems will include design, construction, safety, OSHA compliance, wind damage, property condition assessments, foundations, hydrology, and flooding assessments. Additionally, you may be asked to make structural assessments from a variety of causes such as: fire, wind, impact, construction standard of care, estimation, vibration claims. You will perform timely accurate analysis, prepare reports, and present your findings to clients and other interested parties.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Discipline.
  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) License or Structural Engineering (S.E.) License.
  • 5 plus years of experience which includes at least two of the following: Design, Structures, Transportation, Geotechnical, Water Wastewater, Commercial Buildings, Resident Engineer, Estimation or Residential Construction.
  • Knowledge of a variety of Construction Documents, Construction Administration and Construction Management.
  • Strong knowledge of fundamental engineering principles and building component assemblies.
  • Working knowledge of building codes, standards, and other technical references.
  • The ability to clearly communicate engineering/architectural issues to clients and other interested parties, both verbally and in written technical reports.
  • Must be able to manage several projects simultaneously and be a well-organized, detail-orientated multi-tasker.
  • Must be hands-on in conducting field investigations.
  • Requires prompt responsiveness to peers and clients.
  • General Contractor's License is a plus.
  • Physical requirements include the ability to lift 50 pounds, crawl and, climb ladders
  • Occasionally work will require unusual hours.
  • A book of business connections is a plus.
  • Forensics' experience desired.
  • Project locations vary and will require out of town travel (mostly day trips).
  • General Contractor's License is a plus.

Physical Demands, Overtime, and Travel Requirements

Physical Demands - Work is performed both in an office setting and outside (it could be cold outside or hot outside) locations (i.e. Client's office, industrial, construction, and/or residential sites). Employee is frequently required to stand, walk on slope roofs, sit, climb ladders, bend, climb inside attics and crawl under homes and tunnels, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, and drive a motor vehicle to job sites (we pay mileage, never less than the government rate). Employee may lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Employee must be sharp, focused, and alert when conducting site inspections, speaking and interacting with clients, preparing written reports of findings, and testifying in deposition or trial. Clear vision and depth perception are also necessary.

Overtime - This position is classified as salaried with an exempt FLSA status. Regular working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with one hour for lunch. There will be periods where overtime will be required, which the employee will need to comply with to meet the demands of the position.

Travel Requirements - This position requires up to 25% travel. Some out-of-area and overnight travel may be required.
