The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist III is responsible for the day-to-day environmental, health and safety functions at multiple sites across our west coast operations. This includes, but is not limited to, implementing worksite practices and training programs across the organization in partnership with the safety manager, operational management and employees that result in practical and sustainable safety initiatives and programs. This includes, but is not limited to, implementing the organization's safety program, working with personnel to maintain a safe and healthy work environment, monitoring the facility and processes for adherence to OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other state or local regulations and guidelines.

Additionally, this role is responsible for the elimination of industrial incidents, conducting environmental monitoring and reporting, assisting with environmental permit applications, and assisting with internal EHS audits for the organization. This position works closely with cross-functional teams throughout the organization and is a leader for the pursuit of zero incidents.

Regulatory Compliance Monitoring and Reporting
  • Serve as the primary hazardous waste SME, leading efforts to reduce hazardous waste and implement recycling programs.
  • Manage and perform the planning, training, inspection, reporting and recordkeeping requirements for all environmental and safety compliance programs.
  • Manage 3rd Party Vendor Portals such as ISNetworld, Avetta, PEC and Brownz

Supporting Strategic Initiatives
  • Provide engaging environmental, health, and safety leadership to the facility employees.
  • Plan, coordinate, and attend weekly safety-related toolbox talks and monthly Safety Committees meetings.
  • Act as the facility champion for the EHS Drive to Zero programs.

Worksite Analysis
  • Conduct facility audits and field observations to be used to ensure that consistent, best-in-class results and compliance are followed to enable operational excellence. Prepare reports of findings with recommendations for corrective action.
  • Conduct and document monthly facility inspections of hazardous waste accumulation/chemical storage areas.
  • Perform Job Safety Analysis (JHA), Site Specific Safety Plans and lead actions for controls and countermeasures.

Hazard Prevention and Control
  • Recommending and implementing appropriate risk mitigation measures to management, including ergonomics, safe lifting, electrical safety, NFPA 70e, fall protection, HazComm, HazMat, and DOT requirements.
  • Observe workers to determine proper use of prescribed safety equipment and procedures. Train and demonstrate proper use of safety equipment.
  • Lead investigate for incidents (including injuries, property damage, near misses, releases, and losses) to determine root causes. Work with EHS Manager for corrective and preventive action plans.
  • Act as multi-site SME supporting facility EHS Specialists with hazard assessments
  • Partners with EHS Manger, HR, Operations, and the Workers' Compensation carrier regarding all employee injury/health claims.
  • Leads emergency action plan programs

Minimal Qualifications:
Education
Degree in occupational safety, engineering or science related; or equivalent experience
Certification / License:
Ability to obtain OSHA 30 card within 30 days;
Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid Certification within 30 days.
Ability to qualify and obtain certification as a CSP (Certified Safety Professional)

Work Experience:
4 to 6 years' experience coaching, training, and educating field employees on electrical safety requirements for AC/DC, Arc Flash, and authorized hot work permits as needed
Minimum of 4 years of experience implementing occupational safety and environmental programs and permits such as CUPA, TIER II, Form R/S etc.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
Demonstrated understanding of OSHA, EPA, DOT, and local regulations.
Proven knowledge of safety equipment and standards;
Demonstrated ability to influence management, teams, and individuals across multiple functions within the organization to drive change.
Excellent working knowledge of ergonomic analysis tools.
Excellent working knowledge of emergency action planning.
Proven track record of successfully managing shifting deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Effective verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Job Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Environmental, health and safety, engineering or science related.

Certification / License:
Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST)
OSHA Authorized Outreach Trainer for the Construction Industry, CHST, and/or Certified Safety Trainer

Work Experience:
Implementation experience with safety related programs (ISO, VPP)

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
Basic understanding of 5S, Lean/Six Sigma
Be familiar with 40 CFR regulations including RCRA, CAA, CWA, OPA, EPCRA, TSCA

Compensation: Energy Systems is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The annual salary for this role based in Corona, CA is $75,000.00 - $112,000.00. This compensation will ultimately be in line with the location in which the position is filled. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate's relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and geographic location. This role is eligible for variable compensation including short term and long-term incentives.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee frequently is required to use hands to manipulate objects, tools or controls; and talk and hear. The employee is regularly required to walk; stoop; crouch; bend and reach above shoulders. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100 pounds with assistance, waist high, up to 10 feet away. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be working in the typical conditions of a manufacturing environment including seasonal variation in temperatures and occasional exposure to manufacturing fumes or by-products. The employee must comply with the assigned location PPE requirements including but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, appropriate gloves, clothing and shields for required tasks and closed toed or safety shoes as required by facility safety policies. Travel up to 30% of the time.
