Job Description
In this job you will assemble medium-voltage switchgear units and corresponding subassemblies. You will work in a production environment, engage in continuous productive activity, and must meet requirements within time constraints. This is an assembly line operation involving as many as six stations. Initially you will be assigned to one station but will need to be flexible and open to working additional stations as business needs require. Tasks require a high degree of eye-hand coordination, manual dexterity, and the use of both hands and arms on a repetitive basis for a full range of motion. You will frequently use hand and power tools; occasionally work while standing on ladders; and occasionally work inside tight compartments.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assemble switchgear enclosures, both on the assembly line and directly on the shop floor, ranging in size from 36'x42' to 36'x60'.
  • Identify, transport, install, mount and bolt all types of components (ranging from 5 lbs. to 40 lbs., with assistance), including bus assemblies, high-voltage switches, mounting and support plates, lock assemblies, doors and roofs.
  • Perform mechanical inspection using torque wrenches, screwdrivers, and tape measures.
  • Have proficiency in the use of simple material handling equipment, hand tools, power tools, simple gauges, instruments and overhead cranes.
  • Operate simple machinery such as automatic riveting machines.

To select this job as one of interest to you, at a minimum, you must have the following:

  • Wiring knowledge (routing wires, continuity check)
  • Comprehend written materials and communicate verbally
  • Knowledge of manual, power, and pneumatic tools
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams. assembly drawings, and schematics
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to use basic shop math and measurement tools such as tape measures.
  • Ability to work from complex blueprints, assembly drawings, and specifications.
  • Knowledge and ability to use air impact tools and other hand-held tools.

Relevant Experience Required:
Five years of mechanical assembly and/or electrical wiring. Candidates with electrical or mechanical trade school education (e.g. Coyne American Institute) may also be considered.

MAJOR PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Standing: Most tasks are performed in a standing position with intermittent walking.
  • Lifting: Frequent lifting of items ranging in weight from 5 lbs. to 50 lbs.
  • Walking: Occasional walking moderate distances (less than 1/8 mile).
  • Carrying: Frequent carrying of items ranging in weight from 5 lbs. to 25 lbs.
  • Pushing: Occasional use of electric hand truck to move parts a moderate distance.
  • Pulling: Occasional use of electric hand truck to move parts a moderate distance.
  • Bending: Frequent bending and crouching required to complete the assembly tasks.
  • Reaching: Continuous full range of motion from above the shoulders to below the knees.
  • Handling: Continuous handling of parts ranging in size from 5 lbs. to 25 lbs. along with a variety of hand tools.
