ELS is hiring for the position of Director - Property Accounting in Chicago, Illinois.

JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Property Accounting is responsible for all property accounting functions, including financial statement preparation and review of assigned income statement categories. This position ensures timely and accurate preparation and review of property financial statements. Most importantly, this position will be responsible for maintaining and building upon our culture of collaboration, empathy, and ownership for over 50+ team members.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Prepare monthly property operating financial statements.
  • Lead a team of Managers, Senior Accountants, and Staff Accountants, including duties normally associated with supervisory positions like hiring, training, performance appraisals, and disciplinary counseling.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders in Finance, Operations, and Information Technology to insure optimal business impact.
  • Communicate and assist Operations and senior leadership on financial statement information.
  • Oversee monthly analysis of income and expense variance by property, including occupancy and accounts receivable aging for our portfolio.
  • Review and consolidate all balance sheet account reconciliations ensuring that all reconciling items are a recorded timely.
  • Assist with the preparation of quarterly and annual schedules to support financial statement used for public reporting.
  • Gather records for the annual audit.

SKILLS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting with CPA.
  • Eight plus years experience, property accounting preferred.
  • Advance knowledge of Excel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary.
