Job Description

Datadog is seeking an experienced Staff Engineer to join our App Platform team. The team is responsible for foundational services that support the App Builder and Workflow Automation products. Today, those services power a catalog of 500+ out-of-the-box actions used to manage queues, jobs or deployments, list or page on-call engineers, scale up container clusters, block IP addresses, and much more.

We're looking to evolve this platform by building capabilities to unlock new use-cases for App Builder, Workflow Automation, and other Datadog products. As a Staff Engineer for the App Platform, you will work with a team of designers, product managers and engineers to introduce the newest platform service: easily store and manage data for apps and workflows.

We are looking for a Staff Engineer that is technical and can go deep to build the right storage solution to enable our customers, but at the same time is focused on the end-to-end user experience. You should be comfortable leading a new effort, understanding our customer needs, and designing a system that can meet customer needs and be performant at scale.

At Datadog, we place value in our office culture - the relationships and collaboration it builds and the creativity it brings to the table. We operate as a hybrid workplace to ensure our Datadogs can create a work-life harmony that best fits them.

What You'll Do:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and develop a new platform service for easy data storage and management

  • Drive high-priority, high-visibility projects that enhance the platform's scalability and resilience

  • Lead architectural decisions for new and existing distributed, high-throughput, real-time systems

  • Identify potential system risks and design solutions to address them

  • Contribute to short- and long-term planning and roadmap development

Who You Are:

  • You have several years of experience leading cross-team initiatives in a platform or infrastructure-focused environment

  • You have a deep understanding of relational and document-based database systems

  • You are passionate about performance and efficiency optimization

  • You have significant back-end programming experience and have architected, built, and operated distributed systems to solve problems at high scale

  • You possess a deep understanding of the day-to-day responsibilities of an engineer and have a strong technical background

  • You have excellent verbal and written communication skills and are comfortable presenting and defending your ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences

  • You have a BS/MS/PhD in a Computer Science, Engineering or related scientific field or equivalent experience

This job is available in various departments within our company; to conform to US export control regulations, some of these roles may require candidates to be eligible for any required authorizations from the US government.

Datadog values people from all walks of life. We understand not everyone will meet all the above qualifications on day one. That's okay. If you're passionate about technology and want to grow your skills, we encourage you to apply.

Benefits and Growth:

  • New hire stock equity (RSUs) and employee stock purchase plan (ESPP)

  • Continuous professional development, product training, and career pathing

  • Intradepartmental mentor and buddy program for in-house networking

  • An inclusive company culture, ability to join our Community Guilds (Datadog employee resource groups)

  • Access to Inclusion Talks, our internal panel discussions

  • Free, global mental health benefits for employees and dependents age 6+

  • Competitive global benefits
