SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:

The EHS Specialist works with the Environmental Health and Safety Manager in developing, implementing and monitoring the plant's overall environmental and safety programs and initiatives to ensure a positive, safe, healthy, and incident-free work environment. While having a general knowledge company-wide, this position will focus on compliance monitoring and reporting in all areas of the company. This position would also respond to emergency situations when they arise and will support EHS operations and staff to foster a zero-tolerance culture and ensure compliance.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain accurate daily, weekly, and monthly metrics to report to onsite management teams and corporate-based reporting systems,
  • Complete, document, and submit required EHS reports,
  • Perform root cause analysis to address underlying issues related to EHS,
  • Conduct risk assessments related to jobs performed by employees and suggest risk mitigation strategies through the Job Safety Analysis process,
  • Recommend and implement appropriate risk mitigation measures to management, including ergonomics,
  • Conduct EHS training including new employees,
  • Train and assist managers and employees in completing their safety and 5S audits,
  • Coach management and employees at all levels to ensure compliance with all EHS program expectations and applicable federal & state laws,
  • Conduct safety inspections, issue corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), and drive CAPA closure,
  • Respond to and investigate EHS-related incidents
  • Maintain safety and environmental records including OSHA, WC, ISO14001, and regulatory compliance,
  • As needed, fill in for EHS Manager,
  • Conduct ISO14001 internal audits, issue and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
  • Perform other duties, as assigned

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in safety or environmental field
  • 4+ years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment
  • 2 years of Safety experience in First Aid procedures
  • Certification 30-Hour Card
  • ISO 14001 Auditor certification
  • First Aid/CPR certified/AED
  • Experience in accident investigation
  • Knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations
  • Ability to think clearly and respond quickly in emotional or medical incidents.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in public speaking
  • Ability to effectively communicate and work well with others
  • Proficiency in MS Office and use of office equipment
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Understanding of the department overall objectives
  • Good time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and in a group environment
  • Spanish speaking is highly preferred
  • Union experience preferred

Schedule may vary based on business demands and will require a combination of office hours as well as work performed after hours.
