Job Description

The Metrics Aggregation team owns the aggregation layer of Datadog's timeseries database which powers the infrastructure monitoring product. This layer aggregates high cardinality timeseries data (regular metrics or distribution metrics) to improve the query performance and the cost-efficiency of Datadog's timeseries database. We are seeking an Engineering Manager to guide a team of skilled engineers in crafting and maintaining the next iteration of distributed systems enabling reliable, scalable (hundreds of millions of data points per second) and efficient aggregation of timeseries data at Datadog.

At Datadog, we place value in our office culture - the relationships that it builds, the creativity it brings to the table, and the collaboration of being together. We operate as a hybrid workplace to ensure our employees can create a work-life harmony that best fits them.

What You'll Do:

  • Manage a team of 4-7 distributed systems engineers, including fostering a collaborative work environment and giving appropriate mentorship to help engineers grow.
  • Manage the delivery of the team, running lightweight agile processes to help the team deliver high quality work in a timely manner.
  • Be technically involved with the team, reviewing technical proposals to make sure the team is making sound decisions. You may also contribute directly, though this is not a strict requirement and will depend on the size of the team.
  • Share on-call responsibilities with the rest of the team and ensure a culture of operational excellence.
  • Work with engineering and product leaders to define the roadmap for the team.

Who You Are:

  • You have experience managing a team of engineers solving complex software engineering problems.
  • You have experience building and operating distributed systems in production (ideally with high traffic, i.e. millions of data points per second).
  • You have a strong understanding of distributed systems architecture, including concepts such as scalability, fault tolerance, consistency and concurrency control.
  • You have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • You're comfortable managing and working with geographically distributed teams.

Datadog values people from all walks of life. We understand not everyone will meet all the above qualifications on day one. That's okay. If you're passionate about technology and want to grow your skills, we encourage you to apply.

Benefits and Growth:

  • New hire stock equity (RSUs) and employee stock purchase plan (ESPP)
  • Continuous professional development, product training, and career pathing
  • Intradepartmental mentor and buddy program for in-house networking
  • An inclusive company culture, ability to join our Community Guilds (Datadog employee resource groups)
  • Access to Inclusion Talks, our Internal panel discussions
  • Free, global mental health benefits for employees and dependents age 6+
  • Competitive global benefits

Benefits and Growth listed above may vary based on the country of your employment and the nature of your employment with Datadog.
