In this position, you will provide technical support for Motion Service in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, delivering superior, professional service, remotely or on site. You will be responsible to provide technical onsite and offsite support and expertise in response to a variety of site work requests, telephone calls and emails regarding installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance and programming questions and to technical problems encountered by users of ABB Medium Voltage drives and systems. This in turn results in different actions on the part of the individual depending on the specific circumstances of each case. Execution is performed in a timely manner.

Your responsibilities

  • Perform installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance and repair of ABB Medium Voltage (MV) Variable Frequency Drives (VFD)
  • Investigate problems and independently initiate effective measures for their solution
  • Coordinate activities with related groups to most efficiently achieve objectives to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Participate proactively in contributing feedback regarding product quality issues to reduce warranty costs
  • Carry out preparatory work regarding spare parts, testing of tools and equipment and documentation as required
  • Submit completed, detailed and comprehensive service reports in a timely manner and follows up when needed
  • Coaches and provides technical guidance to fellow colleagues, departments and customers
  • Communicate effectively and present information to top management, customers, vendors and other employees of the organization
Your background

  • Associate degree or equivalent from a two year college or technical program and minimum 8 years of experience in installing, testing, repairing or troubleshooting AC/DC drive systems and their associated controls
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, experience with MV Drives, knowledge of power electronics, motors, transformers, switch gears and computer network communication protocol and theory of operation preferred
  • Ability to interpret circuit diagrams, wiring diagrams, assembly drawings, technical manuals and technical specifications
  • Ability to travel up to 80 percent of the time
  • Maintain a valid driver's license
  • Willing to provide technical support during evenings and weekends on a rotating schedule
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts; in high, precarious places; and in outside weather conditions; performs work related travel; and is occasionally exposed to extreme heat, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, occasionally loud. The employee is regularly required to talk, hear, stand, walk and sit; use hands to manipulate and control tools, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls; reach above shoulders; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch; and taste or smell
