Development Assistant, NorthShore Foundation

The Development Assistant joins the NorthShore Hospitals Foundation, Part of Endeavor Health team to raise philanthropic funds to support elevated patient care, innovations in research and training the next generation of physicians and nurses. The Foundation is pursuing a best-in-class journey to be a top development operation and expand the cultural of philanthropy. We are a small but mighty team that is focused on meeting our goals in a collaborative and respectful environment. The NorthShore Hospitals Foundation office is located in downtown Evanston.

NorthShore Hospitals Foundation is looking for a detail-oriented and enthusiastic team member to support growth in our major and principal gift programs, specifically providing administrative and fundraising support to front line major and principal officers in their pipeline development and donor communication work.

Position Highlights:

  • Position: Development Assistant

  • Location: Evanston, IL

  • Full Time/Part Time: Full Time

  • Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm

  • Required Travel: local travel may be required

What you will do:

  • Support data integrity and prospect qualifications related to portfolios and pipelines in the fundraising database (Salesforce NSPS).

  • Support identification and cultivation of prospects to increase donor loyalty and upgrades to mid-level and major gifts.

  • Support the creation of written donor proposals, coordinate logistics of donor and physician meetings and assist in other donor-facing functions as needed, including organizing and handling donor thank you calls for assigned segments.

  • Provide data-driven administrative fundraising support to gift officers in the major and annual gift programs

  • Track pipeline progress and donor activity, while supporting dynamic portfolio maintenance, working closely with the Manager, Philanthropic Research

  • Schedule internal and external meetings with physicians, administrators and donors, and manage meeting logistics

  • Prepare customized proposals, outreach letters and stewardship reports at the direction of gift officers

  • Assist with general donor correspondence and execute thank you calls and gift follow-up as directed

What you will need:

  • Education: Associates degree in communications, marketing, business or similar field preferred

  • Certification: n/a

  • Experience:

    • 1+ years of experience with Salesforce NPSP or another constituent-focused database is preferred

    • At least one year of experience in administrative, customer service or development work is required

  • Unique or Preferred Skills:

    • The candidate must be tech-savvy and be an avid learner with a keen interest in data, fundraising, nonprofit management, and donor relations.

    • Must communicate effectively and have excellent written and verbal communication skills for internal collaboration and external donor relations

    • Excels in project management: multi-tasking, goal setting, accountability and workload prioritization

    • A keen eye for and attention to detail is essential

    • An ability to work seamlessly with leaders, physicians and high net-worth donors is required

    • Proficiency with MS Office is required, advanced Excel and data management is a bonus

    • Knowledge of virtual meeting protocol and set-up. Experience with Zoom preferred

    • Able to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately and with discretion

    • Interest in fundraising best practices for major and principal giving programs

    • Ability to constructively accept and process feedback and a collaborative working style are essential.

    • Must be flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced, emerging and changing environment.
