Job Description

The Tool Design Department is responsible for designing production tooling including stamping and forming dies, fixtures, gages, assembly tooling, and product test equipment or to make improvements to existing tooling. In this position you will be given assignments requiring the use of a 3D Cad with solid edge software to design new or redesign tools and help troubleshoot or problem solve various types of tooling. You will be working from various types of drawings and blueprints ranging from simple hand drawn documents or detail drawings to complicated CAD generated assemblies. You will be required to maintain high quality and productivity standards and adhere to all applicable safety practices and procedures. This position requires good verbal communication skills and the ability to work closely with other Tool Designers and Tool Makers, machinists, engineers, designers, and production personnel in a team environment.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • The ability to design and troubleshoot various types of tools including stamping / forming dies, fixtures, gages, and assembly tooling.
  • Assume responsibility for the quality of completed assignments.
  • Must be able to work independently, meet productivity, and due date requirements of assignments.
  • Problem solve and determine solutions for various types of tooling problems.
  • Understand the properties and characteristics of various tool steels and their applications.
  • Understand the properties of other metals such as mild steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper, and bronze and how they are affected by the stresses of machining and forming.

To select this job as one of interest to you, at a minimum, you must have the following:

  • Associates Degree experience preferred or similar work experience working as a Tool Maker or Master Machinist.
  • Must have experience with 3D CAD system.
  • The ability to use and apply shop mathematics including geometry, trigonometry, and Machinery's Handbook formulas as required to compete assignments.
  • The ability to work from, understand, and produce CAD generated drawings.
  • The ability to work independently and apply ingenuity to analyze and resolve problems.

Relevant Work Experience:

Be able to read and create drawings using a CAD station. Good math skills. Basic understanding of metal cutting machines and processes would be a plus.

MAJOR PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Office environment but will be asked to preform investigations within both manufacturing and assembly area.
