Job Summary
GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIP OVERVIEW:
Elmhurst University welcomes applications for a graduate assistantship in the Office of Student Involvement for the 2024-2025 academic year, which is renewable for the 2025-2026 academic year. This is a student position. Interested applicants will need to submit an application for admission into a degree seeking graduate program at and be accepted before becoming eligible for consideration for a graduate assistant position that correlates with their area of study.

Graduate assistants at Elmhurst University may be hired for a full tuition waiver based on 20 hours of service per week. Graduate assistants will also receive a stipend while they are working, paid bi-weekly, in support of their continued education. Graduate assistants will participate in their assistantships during the Fall and Spring terms at minimum, and may be required to participate during January and/or Summer terms.

Eligible Graduate Programs: M.A. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Master of Business Administration
Weekly Hours: 20
Start Date: Mid-August 2024
Tuition Waiver: Full
Stipend: $10,000, Paid monthly from September 2024 - May 2025
Terms: Fall 2024, January and Spring 2025

ASSISTANTSHIP SUMMARY:
The Graduate Assistant for Campus Recreation in the Office of Student Involvement will perform a variety of general administrative and first-line supervisory duties as needed in the coordination, guidance, supervision and direction of fitness programming and facilities. The Graduate Assistant for Campus Recreation will report to the Dean of Students in the Office of Student Involvement.
Salary Grade
Essential Functions
  • Manage general operation of the Tyrrell Fitness Center and Tom Roberts Family Weight Room
  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, approve payroll, and supervise all student employees within the Campus Recreation program
  • Provide supervision for the Student Manager(s) of the Tyrrell Fitness Center
  • Assist with updating and enforcing policies and procedures consistently
  • Ensure equipment in all areas of the Tyrrell Fitness Center and Tom Roberts Family Weight Room is in good working condition.
  • Identify equipment maintenance needs and work with the Dean of Students to schedule twice a year inspections
  • Oversee Intramural activities and open gyms including supervising, scheduling, marketing and hiring of student officials
  • Provide leadership and support for special events
  • Collaborate with the Office of Student Involvement to update Campus Recreation web page and social media posts
  • Collect data on participation statistics and general feedback and prepare end of semester report
Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Enrollment in an eligible Elmhurst University graduate program; the graduate assistantship is contingent upon being accepted and enrolled in a graduate program
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work well independently and in teams
  • Respect for individuals from different cultures and backgrounds

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
Employee is subject to indoor work, protected from weather conditions. Work is sedentary in nature and involves exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently/constantly in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Work Hours
Daily office hours Monday-Friday (20 hours per week) in the Tyrrell Fitness Center, schedule to be determined with supervisor.
